I love watching all sports, especially in the playoffs, but there just seems to be something special about hockey playoffs. Maybe it's because I'm in an area that is crazy about hockey, or because since a lot of people around the country don't really care about it, it makes you feel like you are part of something exclusive. I don't know. But I LOVE the Stanley Cup playoffs!

Lol -- crazy Americans. There is no better sporting event than a live NHL playoff game. At least you you get a few points for disliking basketball. Football is pretty good to watch on TV but it really is garbage to watch live (the large crowds are pretty cool but the game itself is painful to watch without the 64 slow-motion instant replays following each 3 yard run).

On another note -- great hockey games all around today.

Going to the ballpark for a game is a fun experience. Watching most games on TV though? About as exciting as watching grass grow.

I went to see the Expos play once, it was a fun experience. Couldn't make a habit out of it though, too long.
Watching baseball on TV is like going to church.

I love baseball but even a great baseball game can't hold a candle to any hockey game.

  • The STL/VAN series is just a prime example of how the regular season doesn't mean shit. The Blues were one of the best 5 on 3 teams in the league in the regular season yet they have had 4:11 of 5 on 3 in this series and failed to score, they also had the 3rd best penalty kill % on home ice yet allowed 3 PP goals tonight, the Canucks were 3 for 4 I believe and scored all their goals on the PP. Also 5th best PP on home ice yet tonight the Blues were 0 for 5 on the man advantage. They are 1 for 16 in the series. I know they are a young team and all but they are just being absolutely out classed in this series. I have to wonder how different this series would be in STL had a healthy EJ, Brewer and Kariya in the lineup.

Just to chime in on the discussion, I am a fan of all 3 sports and they are all great live but there is nothing like a live hockey game, let alone a live playoff hockey game.

If the Blues had all of those guys healthy it would be a totally different series...because we'd probably be playing Chicago

C'mon CBJ , at least play 60 minutes of hockey while going down. Damn, Honestly didn't expect them to get past Detroit but at least show up for the WHOLE game!!!

As one of the few dozen Thrasher fans in the world, I don't want Columbus to pass by us in the playoff wins leaderboard. However, that building is going to be rocking for game 3. Those fans deserve a game, but not just a win quite yet.

    GO CANUCKS GO :D:D:D

The last two games have been amazing. Fast, frenetic and exciting. Hard hits and outstanding goal-keeping. What more can you ask of playoff hockey?

You know you are pretty cocky for someone whose team was in last place in the conference in January and who is down 3-0 in their first round series.;)

How is that cocky? Kariya, Johnson, and Brewer being in the lineup makes it safe to say that we'd probably be at least another spot up in the playoff race? Hell, if we moved up two we'd still be playing Chicago.

This Blues team is young, they will make a run at the Cup in the next five years

Oh there is no doubting that they will be scary good for the next 5 years, especially if they can get a good starting goalie(mason is 34 I think and is now 1-7 in the playoffs) Still there is no guarantee that with those guys in the linup you would have gained another 12 points to finish ahead of Chicago and in 4th in the West, you guys were pretty dismal for most of the season, 3 guys wouldn't have changed that.

In this series it would make a big difference was what I was saying because with EJ in the lineup i am sure the PP wouldn't be 1/16 and Im sure you wouldn't be down 3-0 with Kariya and Brewers veteran presence leading the way. Both Offensively and Defensively, Kariya is also a guy that has played in the SCF, other then McDonald who do the Blues have that has serious playoff experience.

NEW YORK -- The New York Rangers had an interested observer sitting on the visitor's bench as they took the ice for their pregame skate Monday morning.

Washington Capitals winger Alex Ovechkin was watching the Rangers practice when a Rangers trainer complained to the Capitals. Washington PR man Nate Ewell then asked Ovechkin to leave the area.

"Alex was just looking for a place to relax. He likes being by the ice," said Ewell. "As soon as he found out it made the Rangers uncomfortable, he left."

When asked why the Rangers wanted him to leave, Ovechkin joked: "Because they're afraid of me."

When asked why he did it, Ovechkin joked that he sat there to "tick off" Rangers coach John Tortorella. His answer drew many laughs from reporters.

Tortorella insisted after the skate he had no idea Ovechkin was there.

"Who? Oh, god, this is the first I've heard of it," said Tortorella. "Ask me a question about the game, not that [expletive]."

"I don't think he had a pen and paper and was writing down line combinations," joked Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau. "I can understand [the Rangers asking him to leave]. I've gotten into the same arguments with people when I've wanted privacy in my practice, so I can understand what John was going through."

The Blues have always been missing a standout #1 goalie. There's a prospect named Bishop that might be the guy, but that's still at least a year away. This is the reason I was disappointed to see Backstrom re-sign with the Wild...I think the Blues would have gone after him.
