I went to Game 1 against Columbus, and the wallet is taking quite a hit lately, so I'll be watching it from my couch. But I wish I could be there! Have a great time at the game! It should be quite a show. I hope the Wings can get out early and set the pace for this series.

as unlikely as i think it is that they win another cup, i have to go with the ducks this year. my boy teemu deserves it.

carolina's gonna upset boston and washington is gonna make crosby their bitch.

oh and vancouver's making the conference finals (at least).

on a side note, i'm sick and tired of people giving me flack for liking the ducks when i'm from toronto. they always tell me i'm supposed to support a canadian team. screw that. i will never cheer another team from the northeast, so no ottawa or mtl. i haven't liked edmonton since their run to the finals a few years back. calgary is my second-favourite canadian team, but it's evident that they are not adapting to the times and it wouldn't surprise me if they failed to make the playoffs next year. vancouver has a good team this year (mighty sundin, luongo, salo, the sedins & kessler), and i will root for 'em until they face my ducks.

also, the ducks had the most canadian players in the league in '07. should i neglect the canadian content for a canadian team with few canadians?

but really, the ducks have a great team, and bobby ryan performed just as i expected he would this season. pronger and neids are still the best there is at what they do. getzlaf and perry will be a force to reckon with for years to come. and parros has the moustache of doom! this is an awesome team, and yes, they all deserve the cup (again). i just want selanne to get one more before his inevitable retirement, and this year seems to be his best opportunity. he went too long without, and i'd like to see him hoist the cup once more.

Nothing wrong with liking the Ducks. If they beat the dreadfully boring Wings, they will be my new favourite team.

100% clean hit on Hudler tonight too. The 5 min PP was BS. He probably should have let up a bit on him though. No need to kill the guy in that situation.

    Enjoy them while you can.
They won't be playing for much longer.

Clean hit? Yes. No elbow, all shoulder.
Late hit? I thought so. The puck was long gone by the time he made contact. Alot of people in the Detroit media are calling for a suspension and comparing it to the Brashier hit. That is BS.
In any event, you might as well get used to watching the Wings. They're going to be around for awhile.

If you look at in real time ... man, that's really tough to call a late hit ... these guys are moving so fast.

I heard Randy Carlyle last night, (I haven't checked this out for my self), but, he stated from the time the puck left Hudler's stick to the time he got hit, the clock did not move ... not one second came off ... it was that quick.

    You think so?
He has the puck at the blue line, passes it, and it's at the red line before he gets hit.
And Brown watched him pass it before he hit him. Even if it was less than a second, Brown watched him pass it. He could see he didn't have possession.
Here's something that's kind of interesting, though. If you watch the clips on youtube, watch the CBC version and the VS. version. The CBC guys are adamant that it was a clean hit and that it was Huddler's fault for having his head down and not realizing where he was on the ice. But the VS. guys say it was "barbaric" and say how the "puck was long gone" before he hit him.
I guess it's a judgment call, but you can't hit a guy who doesn't have the puck. That's interference. I think the right call was made.

I have no problem with the call (as, it still is interference) ... 5 minute major & game misconduct (as, he drew blood) ...

but, that's enough, no suspension needed.

If you get caught admiring a pass like that, you are fair game. The guy from the Ducks (Brown I believe it was?) should have let up on him a bit because he didn't see the hit coming, but it was not even close to being late. It would not have been called if Hudler saw the hit coming and readied himself, which means that it was not interference. It was essentially 5 minutes for blindsiding somebody with a clean check.

And Milarso, I will never get used to watching the Wings if they keep up the boring play. I only caught some of the last game and it looked like it had bouts of intensity from the Wings -- if they start entertaining, I will be the first to turn on the Wings game.

    NHL Rulebook- Rule 56 Interference
"...making contact with the non-puck carrier is not permitted and will be penalized as interference..."

Just because a guy is "admiring a pass" doesn't mean you can just make up your own rules. He's not fair game if he doesn't have the puck. They made the right call. It was interference, and it was late. It was late because if Brown was hitting him while he was "admiring" his pass, it had to be pretty obvious he didn't have the puck anymore, because he was watching it go down the ice.
And as for watching the Wings, it's fine with me if you don't want to watch. But you should get used to them being on. They're going to be playing all spring and well into the summer.

OK I thought the hit was late on Hudler. I thought it was a cheaper hit meaning the pass was made and Hudler wasn't jumping into the play. Hudler was admiring his pass and that is his fault so punishment was fair. But I think the bigger issue should be on that play is "is it OK to purposely hurt a guy just because you can?" Now if Hudler still had the puck on his stick I'd say totally different play, I'd have said it was a beautiful hit in that situation. But it was long gone and Brown knew it.

Another question - "What if he did that to Cindy Crosby"? What would be his punishment then?

Going to watch another Vancouver win tonight I hope :)

Wow, passing, scoring, physical plays in front of the net and 4 Stanley Cups in 11 years - pretty boring stuff :)

Really? Rulebook references? That was a classic example of one player finishing his check and another player not keeping his head up. If that was late, then 90% of all bodychecks are late. How many hits do you see when the player that is getting hit actually has possession of the puck?
