being able to judge safe distances, and stopping times, and leaving enough room to maneuver does not change with a few drinks unless you're a bad driver to begin with, or get to the point that you can't see straight."I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"0 -

we're talking a few drinks here not a case of beer...you know...the legal limit...more than 1 drink per hour.
I could blow over on two beers in an hour, but it would not affect my driving anywhere close to posing any type of hazard whatsoever on the road. If I was terrible driver to begin with...perhaps, and this is what the legal limit accounts for. It does not, on the other hand, account for advanced or above average drivers.
It is too difficult to come up with a blanket definition of a threat when it comes to drunk driving, hence, "the law" must use very low limits to protect society as a whole.0 -

Ah, Roland. Is there anything you won't rebel against?
Honestly, better safe than sorry. If you want to account for driving capabilities, should we then start taking other things into consideration? What about a father who is a great driver, who has children with him... say he has a few drinks at a family gathering and while driving home, the kids kick off in the backseat. Should good drivers who have children still be allowed to legally drive with a higher blood-alcohol level? Or what about the normally good driver who's under stress at work, has increasingly sleepless nights and decides to have a few drinks after work one night to deal with the stress before heading home?
My point is, where does one draw the line once you start qualifying why how much a person is legally allowed to drink on? It's a slippery slope and not something that could ever be reasonably assessed. It makesfar more sense to have a set limit across the board. My Pearl Jam Photos

That's the problem I have with the anti-drinking and driving campaign around here. They seem to place the focus on how harsh the penalties will be if/when you get busted, so people just focus on not getting busted.
And they act like every single person who gets a DUI is some kind of monster. In reality, I think most of them are just regular folks like any of us who made a bad decision. But I think this demonizing of drunk drivers tends to give people the impression that this doesn't apply to them because they're good people. The Astoria??? Orgazmic!

I've yet to meet someone who'll admit they're a crap driver... no matter how fucking crap they are!
so do you think people should take a drivers aptitude test to see how much they're allowed to drink? Or do you think it should be based on how much you can drink... i.e. what you blow?

Ok So I lied. That wasn't my last post. But this is a different subject now
I know I'm probably not one to talk, but the legal limit for driving is .08 correct? How many beers exactly is .08? one or two? If its about 2 beers then I see what he is saying. I mean it wouldn't be legal if it is unsafe.5/28/06, 6/27/08, 10/28/09, 5/18/10, 5/21/10

The point being...what is the risk factor exactly in all cases? If you think everyone is the same in this regard then perhaps it's you that has some lessons to learn.
Most people can't even drive their car in a straight line sober, and this is what the law allows for...sub standard drivers that aren't really up to the task of operating a vehicle to begin with.

This is why I say allow for drivers to acquire an elevated competency status. I'd put down hard money that if you took two groups of drivers with different competency levels, the more competent drivers could maintain a higher blood alcohol level and still perform better in adverse driving conditions than the less skilled drivers. People act as if a car is going to fall from the sky in front of you or it's going to start raining people on the road or something....they have to come from somewhere...competency of eyes, hands, feet, rate of speed, and the type of car you drive all affect this equation greatly.....massively.Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,

Right, so if you are skilled and drive a BMW with all the nets to protect you. ESP,DSC,BA, I dunno whatever else. This also should come into play.
A skilled driver driving a car that can stop in a shorter distance than the highway code allows should be allowed to drive at a higher speed. Or something like that. hahah,
serioulsy, the show 5th gear did a test, they took a group of 'average' drivers, got them drinking for a day or something, then took a race car driver and got him drinking. The race car driver performed significantly better.
Another test was take a college student, have him drive around a road course, then have him spark a J. the results? He drove better when high.0
