Did he write Devil in a Blue Dress? I was at Barnes and Noble last night and there was a 3 for 2 mystery table and that was one of the books I was trying to decide on. I settled on "The Big Sleep", "The Maltese Falcon", and another book I can't remember the name of."We're fixed good, lamp-wise."0 -

It's great. I just read Hannibal Rising and it is horrible. He needs to retire the character. Plus his books are not written very well. Red Dragon and Silence are great stories so I overlooked the subpar writing. Not possible in Hannibal Rising."We're fixed good, lamp-wise."0 -

Binaural wrote:Anybody ever read any Bill Bryson? I read an extract out of The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid and it had me in stitches. Whats his writing like?
I can't wait to read that one!
The first Bryson book that I read was "In a Sunburned Country" about his travels in Australia and he had me laughing out loud. And "A Walk in the Woods", chronicling his attempt to walk the whole Appalachian Trail with his buddy was pretty hilarious, too.michelle

I'm just finishing "The Know-It-All" by A.J. Jacobs. It's about his attempt to read the Encyclopedia Brittanica from A-Z. His sense of humor is reminding me of Bill Bryson.michelle

"White Man's Burden" by William Easterly.
I'm really into political and cultural books. My all time favorite, The Stranger by Camus.Don't let the world bring you down, not everyone here is that fucked up and cold. Remember why you came and while you're alive, experience the warmth before you grow old.
Best two days of my life: Oasis at MSG and Pearl Jam at the Gorge.0 -
Yeah I've read Red Dragon and Hannibal before but somehow skipped over Silence of the Lambs. Pity about Hannibal Rising, it's in my bookshelf waiting to be read, too.0

Moby DickAthens, Greece: 2006/09/30
"Call me Ishmael. Some years ago- never mind how long precisely- having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me on shore, I thought I would sail about a little and see the watery part of the world." Herman Melville : Moby Dick0 -
Check out "In the Time of the Butterflies" it's a fantastic book. Based on a true story, very moving."Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former. "
Albert Einstein (1879-1955)
