No, A Rod would be horrible fit in Boston. I would rather keep Lowell because he fits in better with the team than I think A Rod ever could. Don't get me wrong A Rod is the best player in baseball, but having the best player never guarantees you a title - e.g. Barroid Bonds in the 90s.

Reminds me of te shortstop situation after the World Series in 04 ... they dumped Orlando Cabrera for Rentaria ... and haven't had a decent shortstop since.

    Man, I miss the OC.

The question is ... will Lowell come back, and how much woill he cost?

Not that I believe in the whole hometown discount thing, but I really believe Lowell likes playing in Boston and enjoys the camaraderie with his teammates. I can see him taking a 2 year year 10 million dollar a year contract with an option for a third. The biggest suitors for him will probably be Philly and the Yankees and I think both may offer him more.

It's a discussion for another time ... next on the agenda, solving Sabathia and Carmona, both of which owned the Sox in their one start vs them this year.

True, but Dice-K did win the duel with Sabithia 1-0 and Ortiz didn't play in that game. We need him to pitch a couple solid games and we should be ok.

Best of luck Boston, I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the Red Sox. I just hope this series is one to be remembered.

    Rotation announced as:

    Game 1: Beckett
    Game 2: Schilling
    Game 3: Dice K
    Game 4: Wakefield

If Wake is unable to go for Game 4, Beckett would go then be ready to go again for a possible Game 7 on 3 days rest. I think this rotation makes great sense.

That would be nice but we're talking about the Red Sox RIGHT! I briefly thought of the same thing but I had to come back down earth.

they swept the Cardinals in the World Series didn't they?

Swept the Angels the past two times they've played.

it could happen ... 8 straight to win the world series starting Friday, just like '04 (granted, that was after giving three to the yanks) ...

I would have liked keeping Dice K at Game 2. That way he's lined up to pitch game 6 so both of his starts would be at home. I think ESPN is wrong. Game 5 is on Thursday and Game 7 is on Sunday. There is no way Beckett would be able to pitch on 2 days rest. They should keep Schilling at 3 that way he is lined up for a potential Game 7.

Then again Dice K and Wakes vs. Westbrook and Byrd should be interesting Games 3 and 4.

Actually all I know is it will soon be mid October and the Sox are still playing. Who am I to complain? ;)

Not a chance, omly 2 days rest.
    This weekend we rock Portland
  • It's a good lineup. Dice-K is much better away from Fenway. They can make the Beckett decision depending on how the series goes for them.

Well Beckett in 03 with the Marlins pitched a shutout in Game 5 of the NLCS against the Cubs and then pitched 4 innings of relief in Game 7 two days later. So he has pitched really well on short rest in the playoffs, but hopefully it won't come down to that.

  • Seriously, what the hell happened to Fausto Carmona?? The guy goes from the worst reliever in the history of relief pitching to AL Cy Young caliber starter over the course of a winter!! I have the utmost repect for C.C. but Fausto scares me more. If the Sox get the win against him they will take this series. Go Sox!!!!
I was taught a month ago to bide my time and take it slow, but then I learned just yesterday to rush and never waste a day. Now I'm convinced the whole day long that all I've learned is always wrong. Things are true that I forget, but no one taught that to me yet

The Yankees are out of the World Series run, the AL will more than likely win the World Series, the two best teams in baseball are in the ALCS, and both teams deserve it more than anyone else. And they're my favorite two teams in baseball...I couldn't pick a situation that I would enjoy more.
