Why do people get jealous?

well I don't completely get the distinction, but from what I understand, jealousy is just like a natural instinct, and it helps you improve yourself, while envy is a more personal slight. Like you ENVY a PERSON but you're JEALOUS of what that person has. hmm...trying to think of an example...like I guess if you are jealous that someone is getting good grades, it lets you know that good grades are something you want and it makes you study harder. Or even if you are like jealous of someone's car, you might save up to get yourself one. Even if it doesn't result in a positive improvement, it's still fairly harmless. But envy is like you look at someone and you kind of hate them for being who they are or having what they have rather than you being it or having it. Like maybe the evil queen was envious of snow white because snow white was now the fairest of them all and the evil queen wasn't anymore. I guess envy would be more akin to resentfulness...maybe.
does that make any sense?
still I think in common language people tend to use them interchangeably.0 -

I used to get jealous over somethings, years ago..
In those years since, I have worked for people that some would say "Had it all".. and thats when you would think jealousy would really have reared its head, but it really opened to my eyes that just because someone has money, doesn't make their life rich. Just because someone has a million friends, doesn't make their life fulfilled. I've learned that no body lives a totally perfect life, and where one thing may seem perfect, there are a million other reasons why I wouldn't want their life. Some people believe the grass is greener on the other side, and it may seem to be.. But I don't know anyone with a perfect enchanted story book life, that I need to be jealous over. My life is what I make it. What is cool about human life is we have the control over how we feel each day. No one can make us feel anything, but ourselves. If you truly love yourself, your focus is on how to live each day to your fullest. There just isn't enough time in this life to spend it pining away to be something you're not.0 -

well I just remembered it from years and years ago I was seeing a counselor and I said I felt bad because I was jealous of something and he was like "that's fine, but you're not envious are you?" and I didn't understand so he explained it to me. I never knew.0 -

but those same people build assumptions on what you write, if you think someone is wrong about particular thing about you, then you should explain and let them know correct information
btw i do hate when people start assuming on this board.0 -
