Why do people get jealous?

Seriously, I was brought up to NEVER to be jealous of anyone...I guess my mom and dad wanted their kids to know that no one is better then us and that we are not better then anyone! Although some people get jealous of someone and to tell you the truth, I only get jealous of people who win the lottery....I don't wish I were someone else EVER, but I do wish I could win some big money. It sure would be nice..:)

i'm jealous of the vast majority of americans. :)
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

  • i was raised the same way. jealously is a wasted emotion, in my opinion. even people that seem to have it all might be seriously jacked up behind closed doors, so no point in bothering really.

i had a friend (emphasis on "had") that was consumed by what others thought/possessed. i never understood it. she thought i was a martian (can't quite argue against that lol)

I think people get jealous because they are afraid they aren't good enough and become scared. So they plot ways to take that person down. :p

  • I think its just a natural emotion that some people express more than others. i dont really envy anyone but i can be pushed to be jealous in my relationship.

Probably the same reason people get insecure or try to make themselves feel better. Fish for attention. I am thinking they are all bound together.
Worried someone will be liked better than them.

how predictable....i mean people's responses on here.

i get jealous, i want to have what other people have sometimes, and sometimes i want to have more then they do. it's kind of a good kick up the arse for me.

It is a natural emotion, but seriously, some people take it too far and gets out of hand!

  • seriously, the concern is over length, which is irrelevant. it's all about girth.

    :D

actually I think people get jealous because they don't really ever get their fill of cake. like Steinbeck said "there is a whole mountain of cake, and some people still will not eat their fill" (east of eden) so, even if they are not hungry - they have to be envious of what they DONT have...sad really.

    sad?

so you think it's sad for someone to want to know what love is?

do you think it's sad for a homeless person to have stable home to go to?

do you think it's sad for sad for 40 year old virgin to want to have sex?

do you think it's sad for a woman who can't have children to want to have a baby?

do you think it's sad for a deformed person to what to be normal?

    the list can go on.

    agreed.

sure, i may look at others and admire/appreciate what they have...but not jealous b/c you just don't know what else is going on in their lives. i think more than anything jealousy is an insecurity issue. if you are jealous, you must not feel happy/content with yourself and/or your situation, whatever it may be. sure, we all want to strive for more...but true jealousy is above and beyond that. definitely a wasted/pointless emotion, it changes nothing but can drive you nuts i would imagine!

    Very Sad...

i see, so would you still say "very sad" if you were an orphan and your parents gave you over into a childrens home because they didn't want you.

then picture yourself being really alone, and then one day seeing this kid who get picked up by his/her parents, and you don't, kid who's parents come to school parent's meeting, and your's don't.......so pictured it yet?

there you go, that's what envy feels like
