Or maybe I should just learn not to be sipping liquid when reading the funny folks posts! :D

this should be a serious thread...
But because it is about helen and her oh so loverly BF, we turn it into a joke!

you should know that i was there when this loverly couple met!, and that the following night, HH's BF ran naked through a muddy norwegian field, on a cold norwegian late october night!

I am sure she will keep that story quiet when she meets the parents  ;)

P.S. Sorry helen! it had to be said!

John Rzeznik is an orphan : ( both his parents died before he was 16. That's really sad. To me it makes his success even more inspirational.

    that was kind of random...
but actually, to get Freudian-my ex's mother was exactly like me. It was scary. She even laughed like I did.

I also met another friend of mine's parents and he had told his mom all about me and I remember going 'gee, that's weird, I wonder why he did that.' I do well with parents though :)
I was talking to his dad about the Mets or whatever. It worked out well :) .

Just be yourself Helen, if your guy likes you, his folks should like you also :)

Yeah, actually I don't really wish that on anyone Allie, but I can think of a couple of instances meeting and getting to know the parents of a fella only to wish I'd never laid eyes on them. But then haha, as it turned out I also came to wish the same about the fella! :D Who'd have guessed hey?

Conversely my ex fiance's parents and family I actually miss more than I miss him. They were wonderful people and it was a shame he wasn't more like them!

Personally I think Helen will be fine and that meeting the parents will be a little nerve wracking but ultimately a roaring success. :)

Oh no! Never turning it in to a joke! I just reckon when it comes to meeting the parents if you don't laugh nervously and joke a little you'd never get through it sometimes!!! :)

You're lucky to have been there soup! :) It sounds like it was a fun time for all and wonderful that such a great couple came together. :) Someone prepared to run naked through a muddy norwegian field sounds perfect for our Hels. :D

    aw :(
    I'm sorry Jeanie :(

but I think it wouldn't be normal if someone wasn't a little nervous about meeting the parents b/c you want to make a good impression.

But I'm sure it will be just fine,

We all have to think positive thoughts and send ''good vibes''

Oh no!! I'm kidding! :D I mean sure, some things were a little embarrassing or hurt like hell at the time but it's all a learning curve hey? :) Makes me who I am. And I sure am not nearly as nervous about meeting parents anymore. A little of course, we all are, but not nearly as bad as I was when I was younger. I guess my point is, you get through it and you live and learn.

Hopefully Helen will be able to look back fondly, with great memories of this time in her life. I'm sure that's what will happen and years from now she'll be sitting down with her mother in law having a good giggle about this very weekend. :)

    I got everything crossed! :)

awww... I was so nervous meeting my fella's parents, but there was no need to. They're lovely people, especially his Da cos he reminds me of my Da and his Ma makes a fine cup of tea :D

    Don't worry, yer a nice person, I'm suuuure they'll like ye ;)

Helen, the man had a pistol, tazer and baton. It was all I could do not to run in terror. : p
That said, I'm sure it can always be worse... but thinking that way is just gonna put you on edge going in there. Just do that thing they tell you to do when you're speaking in public: imagine your boyfriend's parents in their underwear. : p
:D Yeh... but see... he didn't use it on you, did he? At least he didn't use the pistol, tazer or baton :D . It's probably not so bad for me cos at least I'm not trying to take their little girl away from them :D

But that's fantastic advice... I'll do that thanks :)

the first time I met my dad-in-law he told me about his acid tripS while in the Coast Guard on a tiny island way out in the Pacific. I immediately loved the guy.

He also won $64k on "who wants to be a millionaire" and has an IQ of 17X, so the conversations are usually fantastic, except when he goes over my head with his encyclopedic knowledge.
:D excellent... let's hope it goes like that then!

Helen, not sure if you will read this because its 7 pages in, but I have a funny story about meeting the boyfriends parents for the first time (well he's my husband now)

Moral of the story: It's got to be better than that!!! :)
 at least you can laugh at it now... but I bet it was hell at the time! Nothing worse than trying to make a good impression when you know you're a mess :o

thanks :) well I think between my bf and his sister... the mother pretty much knows most things she needs to know, lol... and she still wants to meet me, so that's good. Although perhaps it's to give a good and proper warning to stay away from her son :D
