Well presumably World War II for the people there was not a cheesy, sentimental melodrama? That's what I'm getting at. Of course I wasn't there. You know that damn well. My point is, Spielberg wants to sell his films to Americans. Americans don't like to hear that their military endeavours are messy, sad, pathetic messes involving the tragic loss of young lives. They want heroic tales of valour.

All military endeavors are just that..........

Well of course, if you want non-hollywood war movies that show the brutality of war watch Hamburger Hill or Full Metal Jacket, not a war movie done by Spielberg

Full metal jacket.........one of my favorites.........along with patton..........

I will never see a musical again after that. From everything I heard that was supposed to be a musical for people that didn't like musicals. Fuck that mess then. They sang about every god damn thing they were doing.

"I think I may have to go to the bbbbbbbbbbbbbbaaaaaaaaaaatttttttttthhhhhhhhhhhhrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrooooooooooommmmmmm"

But the worse was when they would stop singing and actually start to get shit done it would make me forget that it was a musical then BAM. Motherfucker starts singing again.

I understand this is the concept behind musicals, but man.

Full metal jacket was good. One of the most memorable scenes for me was the gunner in chopper. I just remember thinking that guy is so fucked up and so far gone. Little did I know that apparently I took that scene wrong and that guy is awesome and funny and that's it's totally cool to do that kind of shit.*

I've never seen any other country treat war films in quite the same way. That's just the way it is. There's a film I saw a while back called Come and See. It's Belarussian or something, I'm not sure, I borrowed it off my uncle. On the DVD cover it said "This is war as Hollywood could NEVER portray it". That pretty much summed it up. Brutal, uncompromising, totally unattractive. Hell, it even had a LOVE STORY in it but was utterly devoid of sentimentalism :D The subject was just treated differently to Hollywood war films.

Well, I talked to people that would never even think about watching a musical. They told me stuff like "Oh, you totally don't even notice that it's a musical at all! It's so dark and graphic! I thought it was awesome and I hate musicals."

Well, I noticed. Which really isn't a big deal. I'm sure there's plenty of movies I like that people think are stupid and such but I'm bored and putting off doing laundry.

  • I hated, HATED Jerry Maguire  Never mind the money, show me the end of the fucking movie already. What a load of garbage that movie was. I also hated Ransom. I am not all that fond of Mel Gibson. I have just never seen what the big deal about him is???

Someone also mentioned "Dirty Dancing". Another movie you couldn't pay me to sit through again.

I am not that fond of musicals either  :o I am probably one of the only women I know that has never seen "Grease" in its entirety nor do I care to.

I also didn't care for "The Ring". NA version as I have never seen the original Japanese version which I heard was quite good.
