The Deer Hunter. Apart from the Russian roulette film, it was boring.

And to reverse the thread a bit, a film I love that everyone hates is The Phantom Menace. I hate the other two prequel films but I loved Episode 1. Up there with A New Hope and Empire!

It's slow and uneventful in parts but I still loved it. Beautifully shot and acted.

I was riveted the whole time, and thought the tension in that scene would kill me too. Going in, I thought I'd be bored out of my mind for three hours. Perhaps knowing that nowhere Pennsylvania community drew me in. :)
I think I'd watched this, Taxi Driver and Raging Bull all in brief time span, and couldn't believe they were all DeNiro.

Yeah, it's weird how convincing yet different three characters could be in the space of 4 years. It's not like comparing Travis Bickle to Jimmy Conway, of course they'd be different. The Taxi Driver/Deer Hunter/Raging Bull run is amazing. A lot of Italian american actors are typecast, especially ones that work with the same directors a lot, but De Niro has never really had that problem.

believe it or not, we don't "need" anything. that is only the spoiled brat in us trying to fill some temporary solution to an emptyness that does not exist.

It's been a while since I've watched it but the only bits I remeber liking were the Russian roulette scene (which is a classic scene) and something about De Niro getting angry about some shoes.

Incidentally, what's your favourite De Niro film?

I remember the first time I saw that, one of my friends said "My god, how long are days in this movie!?!? It's been the same day for ages" And I was like "It's 2 hours. How long are your regular days?" :p
Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.

  • Deer Hunter is also incredibly over rated, other then the beautiful wedding scene and cinematography as well as the incredibly tense Russian roulette scene and also a thoroughly incredibly performance from Christopher Walken

  • I hated "Crash" so much. After about the first 15 minutes, I said "ok. ok. I get it...we're ALL racists." Then it was cliche' after cliche' for the next 2 hours.

i recently re-watched clerks. it has its funny moments, but it definitely was not as great as i remembered. kevin smith in general is amusing, but not as great as people seem to think. my fav movie of his is dogma.
    and like that... he's gone.

Yes...terrible movie. One of the worst Best Picture winners of all time. I knew it was going to be rough when they had to work the title of the movie in right away...you know, because we might've missed the point otherwise.

I haven't been able to confirm it, but I believe it was Samuel Goldwyn who said something like "a good movie has at least three good scenes and no bad ones." Even if he didn't, I think it's probably a pretty good measure (I am pretty sure that it was the late Gene Siskel who used to apply that on TV from time to time).

Crash has at least two terrible, awful, poorly acted and over-the-top scenes. Well-intentioned dreck is still dreck.

Seriously, the songs are not catchy at all, the plot boring and drawn out. Just did not live up the hype.
