same goes for you Jez"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"0 -
Jeremy1012 wrote:I know that. I can read. What I'm asking is "Why do you think that every person who likes Fight Club is the same. Why do you think we all think it's deep?"
Yeah I probably should have used some people............that is a mistake on my part..........not my first and won't be my lost0 -

OK, this thread just undelines my hate for this movie. I've no ned to quote anymore of it, just to say I've never read so much wanky clap trap in all my days!
To me if a movie needs this much fancy bollocks to justify it's existence, then it doesn't deserve an existence.
It's a poor movie with a couple of cool actors with their shirts off for the girls, and some violence for the men.....see there's the formula...oh wait, there's a deep hidden meaning to result!! what a hit!!...yeah right
And Jez.....don't keep bringing up the book man.....it's a movie threadI came, I saw, I concurred.....0 -

The first section, at Normandy, is probably one of the greatest movie scenes ever, although it was done before, and as well (with a better cast. I'll take John Wayne, Robert Mitchum, Henry Fonda and Sean Connery over Tom Hanks any day thanks), in The Longest Day.
The rest is some shitty, overblown, unrealistic Hollywood melodrama that is INSULTING to those who actually experienced the time in question.
Well I agree that the first 20 minutes is amazing and there is a huge drop after that, its still a good movie.
By the way I guess you know it is Insulting to those that were there because you were there right? I mean that is the only way you could possibly be able to make a blanket statement like that.{if (work != 0) {
work = work + 1;
sleep = sleep - work * 10;}
else if (work >= 0) {
reality.equals(false);
work = work +1;
}system("pause");
return 0;}0 -
Jeremy1012 wrote:I just said it's NOT profound, and it's not supposed to be Hollywood either. It's a book by Chuck Palahniuk. He's one of these nihilistic, anti-consumerist guys. That's why the character has a nice job etc. He has to. Some guy working on a shipping yard is supposed to hate his life. In Fight Club, the narrator has a nice job, a nice Ikea house and he's not satisfied. That's believable right? Having financial security isn't a passport to eternal contentment. Why is it so unbelievable that he might have a fight with a friend in the car park of a pub while hammered one night just because they're bored with everything else they do and they've never done it before?
God knows I've felt like it sometimes.
What I want to know is, why is this bit of dramatic license for the sake of a film any more reprehensible and full of shite than Saving Private Fucking Ryan?
Its not supposed to be a deep movie, its a american agro male fantasy story.{if (work != 0) {
work = work + 1;
sleep = sleep - work * 10;}
else if (work >= 0) {
reality.equals(false);

Starship Troopers.
What a load of junk.
And yes, I know you guys like it because of the coed shower scene, but this movie is horrible.
Oh, and Escape From NY, all of the Planet of the Apes, Dumb and Dumber, Sister Act, The Fast and the Furious and Napoleon DynamiteCause I'm broken when I'm lonesome

Jesus christ...
As for it being an aggro male fantasy story, I think you have, like many others, missed the point.
It's about normal men, with normal feelings, not knowing how to act on their feelings so they do dumb shit and screw up. WOWEE. How fucking shocking. That stuff never happens in real life, does it? :rolleyes:"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"0 -

Jeremy1012 wrote:Well presumably World War II for the people there was not a cheesy, sentimental melodrama? That's what I'm getting at. Of course I wasn't there. You know that damn well. My point is, Spielberg wants to sell his films to Americans. Americans don't like to hear that their military endeavours are messy, sad, pathetic messes involving the tragic loss of young lives. They want heroic tales of valour.
Well of course, if you want non-hollywood war movies that show the brutality of war watch Hamburger Hill or Full Metal Jacket, not a war movie done by Spielberg{if (work != 0) {
work = work + 1;
sleep = sleep - work * 10;}

see, I thought he balanced it quite well. I see the glorious valor that Jez talks of, but also the horrid crudity of warfare came across throughout, I thought anyway. And there's any number of scenes where the humility and fraility of the carachters is portrayedI came, I saw, I concurred.....0
