    I ran (with Cameron in Australia) the petition to get them here on the Riot Act tour. We got thousands of signatures, placing petitions on the net, in record stores all over the country, and advertising the thing on the Rock. We sent it off to the band, but nothing.......

    It did work in 98 with Perth getting a show, but we failed in 2002/2003 to get any success. I would fully support anny petition of course, but the 02/03 experience, in which i literally put in 100s of hours has taught me to be cynical

    if they didnt come this time i doubt they will come again, NZ is just to far way to travel too for world tours apparently. then funny thing is we haventhad a show here for 8 years then you go and read all the bitching of some americans who dont get a show for one year or have to travel to th next city, oh how we wish we were that lucky!

    Hello people,

    I have decide that I'm gonna start some kinda petition. I know it's a long shot but it's better than not doing anything. I'm going to voice my frustration and dissapointment. So here it is:

    Early 2006 Pearl Jam announced their Australian tour dates in November. Many New Zealand fans were enthusiastically awaiting the addition of a New Zealand show. It had been over 8 years since Pearl Jam rocked New Zealand with their amazing live performances. With New Zealand missing out on the 2003 Riot Act Tour, fans saw this as their opportunity to finally see Pearl Jam. Weeks went by with no word from Pearl Jam's management or tour promoter. This is because a show in New Zealand penned on the completion of the new indoor Vector Arena in Auckland. Vector officials assured its completion by August in time for Pearl Jam's down under tour. This gave New Zealand fans some promise, especially since they were on the tour programme. People who had even talked to the band have stated they intend to play New Zealand. Everything looked good. Inside word was they had booked their accommodation and everything was set with Vector nearing completion.

    However, by late July things were starting to look very bleak for fans in New Zealand. Still no word from Pearl Jam management. Fans got wind of more delays with Vector Area and the band cancelling their accommodation. This is surely to disappoint many fans of live rock and rip a hole in the heart of their most loyal fans. This may leave some of them questioning their loyalty in the first place.

    Pearl Jam has been known to prefer large indoor venues for its performances. However this all changed with the 2006 tour: Pearl Jam is playing many open arenas and stadiums on its tour, especially in Europe. New Zealand somehow misses out because Pearl Jam management cannot work around our venue problem. There are plenty of excellent venues for outdoor performances. Western Springs Stadium which hosted the Rolling Stones has a capacity of up to 50,000 for concerts. Mt. Smart Stadium has a capacity up to 25,000 and is hosting two shows by U2 in November. Wespac Stadium in Wellington which also hosted the Rolling Stones has a capacity of 34,500. With an excellent selection of venues there are no excuses not to play in New Zealand. A lack of a New Zealand tour leg is a kick in the teeth for many New Zealand fans. So please sign the petition if you would like to have opportunity to see Pearl Jam play in New Zealand.

    I know many of you will be disheartend and have given up hope but I certainly havn't. I'm a die hard fan that still hasn't seen them live. Why should I not get to see them? Just because I live in New Zealand. Pearl Jam has stated that they don't like fans to be disadvantaged becasue of prices etc. Well I am disadvantaged. I can't afford to jump on a plane and go to multiple shows. Am I not any less of a fan than someone in Australia, US or Europe?

    The best way is to get as many people behind it as possible. Like the last petition. In music stores. Radio plugs and wat not.

    I'm with you man. You guys deserve it. This sort of thing happens semi regularly in Perth due to location, but nowhere near as often as in NZ. This is obviously more important than with other bands as well. I'll sign up.

    mate im with you all the way. I got into decent music in 2003, pearl jam being one of the first bands i got into, 3 years and 450 cds later i am music mad, im trying to get everything and anything everyones released :)

    I know noone in the business but ill distribute the petition as much as i can. Im absolutly shattered they arent coming just like everyone else on this thread is.

    The 98 Concert in Auckland was my first major exposure to them, at the time I wasn't really a fan of theirs ( I got a free ticket so thought I better use it), I think Daughter was the only song I liked, but that concert was sooooooooo gooooooood that it converted me to a hardcore fan.

    I now have all albums, about 10 bootlegs, went and saw them again in Austrailia in 03 and just love everything they release.

    Sucks major arse to hear that they are not coming here in 06, I'm sure you would have purchased tickets in a flash, I can't afford to go see them in Oz this year, but fingers crossed they come over our way in the near future.

    I can imagine. I had only been in the country for a few months at the time, and I remember the petition very well. I am not very optimistic right now, but yes I will back any petition to bring them over 100% .
