i just think it's sad that some people won't accept that life is just miserable, and that they feel the need to construct a happy ending for themselves in order to feel better.
I just accept that I will be worm food, and there's no grand reason for me at all.Jam out with your clam out.0 -

Well, I should clarify. In my case I don't want to hear it because I already know all about Jesus. (In fact, I'm a big fan.) I don't fit the narrow definition that many have of what it means to be a "Christian" because I don't attend church or subscribe to a particular religion. But I definitely try to live my life according to Jesus' teachings and plan to encourage my children to do the same.
I just find many Christians' insistence that they know something I don't, and the insistence that I'm missing out on something (or worse, am on a path straight to hell, lol) to be redundant and annoying.
And then there's the case of hypocrites. Take my brother, for example. He steals, lies habitually, etc....but if you asked him, he would tell you he's a Christian and he knows the bible like the back of his hand. I wish more people would just live like a Christian rather than tell you that they're a Christian. Lead by example, not just with words...ya know?0 -

but life isn't miserable! whether you believe in God or not, life doesn't have to be miserable.
if someone wants to be a little happier in this crazy world, why not let them? people do all sorts of things to feel better anyway.
I believe in God, but I know I'm gonna die and my body will be worm food..
and you know, some people who don't believe in God think/find that there's a reason for them being here.
if you want your life to be miserable, fine, that's your choice. but please, don't expect others to mope with you."Don't be faint-hearted, I have a solution! so you're already ahead of most people who claim to be religious anyway.Brain of J.Lo wrote:I just find many Christians' insistence that they know something I don't, and the insistence that I'm missing out on something (or worse, am on a path straight to hell, lol) to be redundant and annoying.
Trust me, I'm not a big fan either... although I do find the whole religion debate interesting. I have friends of many different religions and I've gone to their 'places of worship' simply out of interest... one thing I've found is that there are very few who actually FOLLOW the teachings that they try to force upon others.Brain of J.Lo wrote:And then there's the case of hypocrites. I agree 100%. You are NOT a christian if you live like that... not to mention all the disgusting things done all the time 'in god's name'. Those people may USE religion as an excuse... but they are certainly not religious. The Astoria??? Orgazmic!

i'm no moper.
BUT ... Life is miserable! We each exist for a miniscule, insignificant amount of time. Nothing we do will have any kind of impact in the grand scheme of the universe. Some people find that so depressing that they need to invent a scenario that puts them on "high" at the right hand of an invisible man, resting on mattress made of clouds.
bogus!
but I, sir, am no moper. I am content in my nothingness.Jam out with your clam out.0 -

Yeah, it's amazing how few people you meet that actually work hard to do the work that they call god's work. I could write a book filled with just my own bad experiences with those who call themselves religious and/or Christians, and that's why I feel it's so pointless to talk about it. People get so caught up in the rhetoric and then it just sort of ends there... More action, less talk is what the world needs.0 -

but in my lifetime, I've seen very few selfless people... some have been religious and some have not. I don't think you need religion to be a good person but I think many truly good people at least directly or indirectly follow the morals that were set out in the bible... coincidence?

the thing is.. the Bible is written by humans and most of it isn't the direct word of God. so, if someone is trying to do everything the Book tells them to and believe everything in there is true word for word, it can make them miserable, but then we're definitely talking about religioon/people making them so, and not God.
agreed, temptations are all around and people fall. we're humans, we can't help but fall into sin.. it's whether or not you know you did wrong (in the eyes of God or law) and regret it that counts."Don't be faint-hearted, I have a solution! We shall go and commandeer some small craft, then drift at leisure until we happen upon another ideal place for our waterside supper with riparian entertainments."0 -
all I know is, if there is a god, he's got lots of 'splaining to do. when I get to heaven, I'm going to demand immediate audience with him.Jam out with your clam out.0

now ur talking about morals vs. ethics. morality is ethics with a paper halo.Jam out with your clam out.0
