when you win 1 championship in 68 years , thats what happens.
not to mention the original 6 tie in, and not making the playoffs for so often with very few teams to contend with , its understandable.

its not like we were born in the 60s or even 70s

Leetchs addition is a must because he was home grown ( hey coincidence just like Richter ) , NYR molded , and they compose the link to days of former fighting and clawing, ( Greshner and Erixon, for example )

(mess) & graves arrived with the edmonton east splurge, so they are key ins as well.( not to mention graves' endless work-- still to this day ---for various charities in and around the NY Trisate area ) .

the rafters are looking mighty crowded up there , along with all those knickerbocker ones and the billy joel and elton john banners ( those i wouldnt miss if they yanked'em down )

  • Got my tickets for Adam Graves night

I almost teared up when they gave it to him, hes my favorite player to ever hit the ice since I was 3 years old. I never thought he would get his number up there....did you see his face? He was in COMPLETE shock and the fans just roared. I don't think I've ever heard the garden that loud. He's probably the most loved Ranger ever.

My favorite part of the cermony was Leetch mentioning Potvin, and all the chants started but then he started talking again and then out of no where...POTVIN SUCKS, hahaha

i assume then you are a season ticket holder,
cuz i have only read about it being in 2008-2009

total class having leetch announce the graves thing on " his niight " .

also, not a single mention of slats- guess theres still a little resentment there on that front,...( still bitter about trading him away in the 1st place perhaps ) ?

not so hush-hush if you read the daily news:

Whether Marek Malik's Rangers career is over is unclear. That he owes coach Tom Renney an apology is crystal clear to his Ranger teammates - including the handful who called him out for a stunning breach of team etiquette following Tuesday night's game.

The Daily News has learned that when Renney went around the room to shake each player's hand - as he normally does - Malik refused to extend his. Several players nearby immediately got in Malik's face about the slight, their voices loud.

The commotion got the attention of nearly the entire room. And when Malik still had not apologized as of yesterday morning, Renney sent him home, prohibiting him from attending the morning skate at the Greenburgh practice facility and, more significantly, banning him from last night's game and the Brian Leetch number retirement festivities.

"It was pretty obvious - a lot of guys saw it," one Ranger said of Malik's snub of Renney. "You don't do that. And you can't have that. If you do, you don't have a team."

As it turns out, amid lusty fan booing whenever Malik touches the puck in Garden games, Renney has gone out of his way to say supportive things about the veteran defenseman. And Malik played one of his better games of this season Tuesday night in a 4-0 thumping of Atlanta.

And when Malik on Jan. 5 stormed out of the arena in Edmonton two hours before game time upon learning that he would be scratched that night, Renney gave him a pass.

"If I didn't know him the way I do, and if I didn't know at the end of the day that there's a huge amount of respect going both ways, I may have snapped right back," Renney said upon restoring Malik to the lineup three games later. "But I didn't.

"I think (Malik is) a good, honest man. He's a sincere guy and a good teammate. He cares about winning."

All Renney would say last night was that Malik's absence from the team was an "internal matter. I think everything will work out."

    from New York Rangers .com

It was a particularly big night for Dubinsky, who was named the MVP of the annual YoungStars Game. The game brought the top 16 rookies from the NHL's two conferences together for a 3-on-3 game, and Dubinsky led the East with two goals and an assist.

The YoungStars event showcased the great potential that Staal and Dubinsky have shown Rangers fans all season. Broken up into two six-minute periods, the YoungStars Game was worth one point in the total Superskills score for the winners of each period. Staal and Dubinsky were both outstanding in the first six minutes, as the East routed the West 6-2 to earn a point. The West would come back to win the second period 4-1.

Dubinsky was a standout on offense for the Eastern Conference YoungStars, all NHL rookies, as he had an hand in three of the six first-period goals. Staal, meanwhile, scored a beautiful goal on a first-period semi-breakaway and assisted on the East's lone second-period goal.

Rangers defenseman Marc Staal had a big night in the NHL YoungStars game, scoring one goal and setting up another.
Finishing the first period with two goals and an assist, Dubinsky got into the act early, feeding Washington's Nicklas Backstrom from the right circle for a 2-0 lead just 2:30 into the game. Only 45 seconds after setting up Backstrom, Dubinsky gave the East a 3-1 lead, scoring on a backhand from in front of the net.

Staal then made it 4-1 when he took a cross-ice pass in the right circle and skated in one-on-one with Western Conference goalie Chris Osgood of the Detroit Red Wings. Staal fooled the veteran Osgood with a high wrister that caught the top of the left post and bounced into the net for the type of goal that typified the wide-open excitement of a 3-on-3 format.

The Rangers rookies weren't done, however, as Dubinsky capped off the first-period scoring with only 13 seconds left, when he redirected a centering pass behind Osgood for his third point of the night.

Staal later picked up his second point when he set up a goal by Backstrom early in the second period. Staal took the initial shot, which was stopped by Western Conference goalie Manny Legace, but Backstrom was right there for the rebound.

Legace later made a big stop on a breakaway by Staal, as the Rangers defenseman nearly came up with his third point of the night to match Dubinsky.
