I always thought the alien episodes were way too dragged out. Fair enough, the die hard fans love the massive story arcs, but it got to a point in series 6 or 7 where if you hadn't watched the first few series you couldn't follow the alien storylines past the simple "Aliens invade. Government cover up". I remember as a kid always hating the alien stories because I couldn't follow them. Much preferred the stand alone monster of the week episodes.

I like that big arc. It is easier to follow when you have all the DVDs. You can play those episodes in order and back to back. However, I just don't love the X-files for the alien stories or Gillian Anderson.

Some of my favorites had nothing to do with aliens. The episode where appliances are telling people to kill other people. The mail worker sees "Kill em all" in his machine. There are too many to list.

Just a little more on the connection between the X-files and Night Stalker:

    Legacy

The series has been described as a predecessor to The X-Files (1993-2002). The X-Files creator, Chris Carter, has acknowledged that the show influenced him greatly in his own work. He paid tribute to Kolchak in a number of ways.[3] A character named "Richard Matheson", named for the screenwriter of the pilot films, appeared in several episodes. Carter also wanted McGavin to appear as Kolchak in one or more episodes of The X-Files, but McGavin was unwilling to reprise the character for the show. He did eventually appear in several episodes as Arthur Dales, a retired FBI agent described as the "father of the X-Files".

I can't remember episode titles but my favs were:
-The one with the murdering doll (Me and my friends were quoting that episode for months afterwards!)
-The one with the inbred hillbillies raping their sister (The intro with the kids playing baseball is the X Files scene I remember best).
-All the episodes with that guy who could control people's minds.

the one with the doll was writen by stephen king, and the peacocks, that wasnt the sister, that was their mom..............

didnt read all of this... but i saw a clip of the new movie somewhere recently and wondered if it was Billy Connolly in one of the trailers?
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

Very excited for this. I have some of the seasons on DVD but I'm missing others. I got into the show too late to "get" the overall arc. I think they put out DVD sets of just the alient/government arc episodes.

    yeah, that was him.

My brother has been a huge, die-hard fan of X-Files since like '93, so I'll probably just go with him to watch this. It's a really good show, but I never saw enough episodes I think to really get into it like he did, nor did I see the first movie.

I've been trying to get the GF through the series before the movie, but I failed miserably as we've only got midway through season 3....
Oh well, I'm going to see the flick tomorrow, I think.

The show scares the shit out of my wife so I'll either have to wait for DVD or go alone.

    hahaha, that sucks
The gf doesn't get freaked out too much until the music for alien appearances change, or there's bugs on the screen and I make her think she's got a bug on her neck.

The episode with the demon family who kept getting rid of their non-demon kid is what did her in.
