Actually....I am. I have every one of them. Lame!!

Anyway, anyone seen the trailer? I saw a poor bootleg and I can't wait to see a good one. The crowd in the theater went NUTS when the theme music came on and they realized what it was.

This movie could be pretty big. If it doesn't suck.

What? Why? The 'I want to believe' tag was always part of the UFO mythology. This film will be like a stand-alone episode. I'd love to call bullshit on this one...

    No BS, it's true.

Makes sense. "I Want To Believe" was always a reference to the show. I think it would be far fetched to think there would be no alien references in an X-Files movie. It was kind of the theme of the entire series?

    Very excited to see this.

I think the alien mythology was the best part of the X-files. The cultural references run very deep, and it is interesting to see how Carter expands on them. The other side of the X-files was based on the weird stuff. These types of themes, monsters, people with mutated needs, were based on the TV show Kolchak: The Night Stalker with Darren McGavin. Carter on numerous occasions and in the DVDs sights Night Stalker as one of the influences for the show. The original Night Stalker tracks down a serial killer who turns out to be a vampire. One of my favorite episodes of the X-files is where Carter weaved these two threads together. It was masterful. Darren McGavin guest starred as a retired FBI agent. The FBI agent that started the X-files. Mulder goes to see him about his association with Mulder's father. It really was really a great tribute to Night Stalker. I have all nine seasons on DVD, so it you want to know exactly what episode it is, I will look it up.

I just pulled this from wikipedia. It was something I didn't know about Night Stalker. The mythology of NS included a UFO encounter and government conspiricy:

Main article: List of Kolchak: The Night Stalker Episodes
Between the series' short run and the two movies, they managed to tackle most of the major monster myths. Two stories about vampires, one about a werewolf, a mummy and a zombie story make up the classic monster genre. In a related classification, it also included a good old fashioned ghost story, one about witches and one involving a pact with Satan. A story about Jack the Ripper is one of the few based an an actual historical figure, which is given a supernatural explanation. Three more episodes dealt with immortality and aging related murders, involving a mad scientist, a succubus and Helen of Troy/Hecate. Four episodes focused on monsters and spirits based in native folklore (two involving Native American legends, one Hindu and one Creole). Another featured a killer android, which was a popular subject of the 70's. The series even tackled a UFO encounter and an invisible alien, complete with a government conspiracy. Of the more esoteric were episodes about a headless motorcycle rider (the headless horseman myth), an animated knight's suit of armor possessed by a spirit out for revenge, a prehistoric man thawed back to life and a lizard creature protecting its eggs.

just because it wont focus on the mythology doesnt mean the characters wont be continued. i want to believe sounds like mulder or scully may be on some quest for answers or maybe another of mulder's giving up on the truth episodes. should be an interesting movie no matter what the title refers to.

It makes sense from a marketing point of view. They can simply use the "I WANT TO BELIEVE" posters to advertise the film. It's an iconic image, easily recognisable, directly linked to X Files and gives nothing away about the film.

But just saying "X Files: I Want To Believe" does sound a bit stupid. Most people will probably refer to it as X Files 2.

when i was very young i used to scare myself witless watching the night stalker. i loved that show. as i loved the xfiles.
but i have to disagree with you. i never thought the alien eps of the xfiles were the best.

I always thought the alien episodes were way too dragged out. Fair enough, the die hard fans love the massive story arcs, but it got to a point in series 6 or 7 where if you hadn't watched the first few series you couldn't follow the alien storylines past the simple "Aliens invade. Government cover up". I remember as a kid always hating the alien stories because I couldn't follow them. Much preferred the stand alone monster of the week episodes.

i was a diehard xfan and i could never get into the alien arc. as weird as this might sound, it just seemed too far fetched to me.

I can't remember episode titles but my favs were:
-The one with the murdering doll (Me and my friends were quoting that episode for months afterwards!)
-The one with the inbred hillbillies raping their sister (The intro with the kids playing baseball is the X Files scene I remember best).
-All the episodes with that guy who could control people's minds.
