I was gonna tell you to calm down and give an intelligent argument as to why you think your generation isn't narcissistic but it's too funny to watch you blather on about your generation. So please continue.

this one goes out to you:
Greatest Love Of All
I believe that children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be
Everybody searching for a hero
People need someone to look up to
I never found anyone to fulfill my needs
A lonely place to be
So I learned to depend on me
I decided long ago
Never to walk in anyone's shadows
If I fail, if I succeed
At least I will live as I believe
No matter what they take from me
They can't take away my dignity
Chorus:
Because the greatest love of all
Is happening to me
I found the greatest love of all
Inside of me
The greatest love of all
Is easy to achieve
Learning to love yourself
It is the greatest love of all
I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be
And I decided long ago
Never to walk in anyone's shadows
If I fail, if I succeed
At least I will live as I believe
No matter what they take from me
They can't take away my dignity
Chorus:
Because the greatest love of all
Is happening to me
I found the greatest love of all
Inside of me
The greatest love of all
Is easy to achieve
Learning to love yourself
It is the greatest love of all
And if by chance, that special place
That you've been dreaming of
Leads you to a lonely place
Find your strength in love
Greatest Love Of All

"Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity." ~ MLK, 1963
I think this whole thing is kind of silly. If this was about black people, women, Mexicans, gays or whatever... somewhere around page two a reasonable person would have said: 'stop generalizing'.
Former generations had parents that were much more strict and respect-oriented than parents nowadays. I grew up in an era where adults were always respected, there were more consequences for our actions, teachers were feared, and you were an adult and moved out of the house at around 18 years old. This generation, with kids living with their parents into their 20s and don't necessarily work to support themselves proves that it's different now.
I think the biggest difference is the high standard of living there is now relative to 30 or 40 or 50 years ago. There are more families with multiple cars, multiple TVs, less children, air conditioning, more readily available foods, microwaves, etc., than there were in those halcyon days of old.
I agree with you about the discipline, at least corporal discipline and financial discipline, but I honestly think that stuff started to slip in the 1980s, if not earlier.
I have to disagree with the adults "always respected" thing. Somebody who was 15 in 1967, which was a pretty turbulent time (I guess) for parent-child relations, probably had more than a few scrapes with ma and pa. I know quite a few people my age who didn't give a rat's ass what their mom or dad -- who were most likely living in separate homes -- had to say about anything.
I'm 32 and I've got a couple people I know who still live at home. They're losers, of course, but it's not an issue exclusive to whatever the hell the name of this 21st-century generation is. Plus, the kids-out-at-18 phenomenon hasn't always been that way. Think about the old days, when things were great, people respected their parents and worked on the farm. Those unlucky bastards stayed at the homestead until they were marryin' age.
Every generation seems to think they're the paragon of virtue and the right way to do things. My dad, his dad, his dad before him, all of them probably bemoaned the generations that followed.
Let's give this newest round of dipshits an chance before we start commenting on how terrible they are. Shit, I might have been out of the house and working at 19 but that doesn't mean I wasn't a goofball.
I hate Emo and green grading pens as much as the next guy but I'm more worried getting my own shit together well enough to take over for my parents' generation when it's time to start really running things.
The countdown in nearing zero.

Great points. As a person who works with kids daily it does seem like a lot of respect is gone, but the kids today have a lot more stimulation than some of us had growing up. Mostly at my much lower grade level (middle school) they are just kids and I am constantly reminded myself at my behavior back then and it wasn't all that different. Karma's a bitch

And that failure's no success at all."
"Don't ya think its sometimes wise not to grow up."
"Cause life ain't nothing but a good groove
A good mixed tape to put you in the right mood."
I'm not narcissistic like those students, I'm much better than them.
It doesn't matter if you're male, female, or confused; black, white, brown, red, green, yellow; gay, lesbian; redneck cop, stoned; ugly; military style, doggy style; fat, rich or poor; vegetarian or cannibal; bum, hippie, virgin; famous or drunk-you're either an asshole or you're not!

Well, I did try inexpertly a few pages back, without saying that directly...
