are you willing to fight?
I had a debate with my 15 year old son today on this subject. He believes that in many cases war/attack is the only solution. I suggested that since he has this view than he must be willing to fight along side his fellow countrymen. He disagreed. You can believe that war is the answer and yet not be involved in it, so he says, unless it is self defense, of course.
I say if you truely believe in something you better be able to personally, physically and mentally be able to back it up.
Am I wrong..or what?

You are 100% right. If its something you're not willing to fight over, why support it?.. anything else and you are just a tool being used.0

Do you support abortion? If so, you'd better be prepared and willing to go in with a scalpel or some saline solution and go to town. I mean, if you support it, you should be required to actively participate in it, right? Why go home

This is the dumbest thing that I have read on here in a long time. You can believe in someone's right to choose to abort a baby without aborting one yourself. I don't believe in aborting babies, but who the fuck am I to say that you can't abort one if you so choose? With a war, you can only support it if you are willing to lay your life (or your child's life) on the line for said cause.PaperPlates wrote:Do you support abortion? Of course because we all know war and abortion go hand in hand.PaperPlates wrote:Do you support abortion? Dumb how? In either scenario, you support killing. So, without there being a double standard, you'd better be willing to do the killing yourself......Why go home

so...anyways...the topic was war.0

I support a woman's right to do what's best for her health.
I don't support a coward's right to be cowardly.

Now pay up.

Well, now the topic is hypocrisy and double standards.
Should an 80 year old man with no family who supports war as a last resort pick up a gun and join up too?
How about an invalid? What about people who support it and are rejected by the military? Are they cowards too?Why go home

I think he was responding to this line in the original post.yellowbird wrote:I say if you truely believe in something you better be able to personally, physically and mentally be able to back it up.
This is a dumb argument. What about stem cell research? By his reasoning you can only support it if you have the mental ability to do stem cell research and the equipment(physically able).
As far as war it is still a stupid argument.
What about disabled people or people too old to serve in war, are they not allowed to support it?Peace through superior firepower!0 -

Nor do I support the right of somebody acting the idiot.
Unless it's on the comedy channel.

Hey!!! An intelligent person in this thread!!!
And yes, that was the line I was responding to.
And to que, some people would consider killing an innocent baby in the womb, after YOU made the decision to have irresponsible sex a cowardly thing to do. Just an FYI, not every abortion is made to save the mothers life. Not every abortion is done with HER health in mind.
But this isnt an abortion thread. But its a "put your money where your mouth is" thread.
That standard should apply to all actions, not just the ones you want to pick and choose. Why go home

I'm not sure that if someone says he believes that war is justified, but wants someone else to do the battle for him, is necessarily a coward. I think he is disilluioned. Brainwashed into thinking that this is how a real man should act. But when it really comes down to it, he doesn't want any part of it. So maybe the belief is really not there and maybe he is too immature to admit it. I hope that is how it is with my son anyway.0 -

Personally, I tried to join the marines when I was 20. I was passed by. Im no coward, nor am I disillusioned in my beliefs. It wasnt about what a "real man" would do. It was about what THIS man would do. Im no coward, simply didnt qualify. But unlike many here, I realise I can only speak for myself. I don't proclaim to have the right nor ability to assume I can speak for others. Why go home
