I think kids are more damaged watching 'American Idol'... or worse, 'Dancing With The Stars'. Talk about something turning you gay.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

gue_barium wrote:That part was uncalled for.
It was, but I meant it to be harsh because I have utter contempt for these people for bringing a lawsuit over this. The teacher should be fired for breaking school rules, and that should be the end of it.0 -
if someone can sue over saying the pledge of allegiance; or the 10 commandments in front of a courthouse; then yes; they have a good case. i hope they win big.0

What's this got to do with that?

The big difference being that the people suing over the pledge are suing have the pledge removed from the classroom, or made optional ... not for hundreds of thousands in damages.onelongsong wrote:if someone can sue over saying the pledge of allegiance; or the 10 commandments in front of a courthouse; then yes; they have a good case. i hope they win big.
The people suing over the 10 Commandments in front of the courthouse ... same thing, they want them removed, they're not asking for a big pile of cash.
These people are just trying to enrich themselves at taxpayer expense. "Emotionally damaged," right  They should fire the teacher, apologize to the parents, and that should be the end of it."Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity." ~ MLK, 19630 -
hippiemom wrote:Yeah, it's an R, I don't think I'd want my 12 year-old watching it. There's no full frontal nudity or anything, but it's pretty damn clear what's going on. Still, it shouldn't cause anyone emotional damage
This what i was thinking along the lines of. If they had shown any R rated movie with sexual content, gay or straight, i bet the same thing would be happening.Seeing visions of falling up somehow.

This is an "R" rated movie.. I would not allow my kids to watch this at home let alone at school. The man on man love in the tent is a little over the top for a 12 year old. This teacher had no right to show it without parental consent.Thats a lovely accent you have. New Jersey?

Easy you click the remote button and the sheer gayness envelopes you. You know...extremely gay but in a non sexual way.

Why would a "teacher " show a movie?
You mean to tell me with a degree in teaching, the best thing these people can come up with when they fill in; is to show a movie?
Why not run a fun creative writing improv?
Sheesh....movies in school:rolleyes:0 -

Agreed.
On a another note here, I have watched that movie twice and I don't feel any gayness creeping into my bones.
I'm still gay free. At least I think I am:D:D0 -
Here is a whole list of educational DVDs available free from Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Might be a bit heavy for 12 year olds, but it's far more appropriate for classroom viewing.

Depends on how "entertained" you were by it...
Going to see Brokeback is like renting gay porn...why would you if you're straight? Morbid fascination I suppose...or your woman dragged you to it...Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,

I didn't see it for a long time after it came out, not because of the gayness, but because of the cowboyness. I've never liked cowboy movies.RolandTD20Kdrummer wrote:Depends on how "entertained" you were by it...

Eventually, I heard enough about how good it was that I decided to rent it, and I'm glad I did. It really was a very well-made movie, I enjoyed it a lot. I'd recommend it to anyone who isn't homophobic."Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity." ~ MLK, 19630 -

I guess you and I have a different definition of "porn":D
I'm a bit baffled at your attitude towards this Brokeback Mountain movie.
I watched Lord Of The Rings and I'm certainly not a Hobbit, lol.
I have watched several Japanese and Chinese movies (with subtitles) and I'm not either of those.
I often watch Amistad and I'm not Black, a former Slave owner or a Slave.
Should I only watch Toy Story if I'm a toy?:D
I'm open-minded that way.
Why are you so threatened by a movie which deals with a male homosexual relationship? Do homosexuals scare you or something?
Oh well. I'm off to watch a movie about two homosexual women and their rather tragic relationship. If that makes me a lesbian, then so be it:D
But first I'll make sure to go out and hump a female, just so my sexualitiy is not in question and to prove my penis does in fact love females; for RolandTD20Kdrummer' s sake:D:D0 -
It is common sense not to show a movie like that in a classroom full of 12 year olds. That aside, parents like this need to pull their heads out of their asses and sit down with their children and explain to them that the world isn't all flowers and cupcakes...there are different people in the world and sexual preference amongst people is one of those big differences. It's a part of life and in my opinion in this situation it would be healthy to jsut explain this to the child, but the point is that it's real and it's out there and it's the reality of life.
regardless, that teacher is a moron and should've used their brain.7/2/06 - Denver, CO
