"The counterproductive and self-destructive culture of black rednecks in today's ghettos is regarded by many as the only "authentic" black culture--and, for that reason, something not to be tampered with. Their talk, their attitudes, and their behavior are regarded as sacrosanct.
The people who take this view may think of themselves as friends of blacks. But they are the kinds of friends who can do more harm than enemies."All I know is that to see, and not to speak, would be the great betrayal.

i will as soon as you explain why every single one of my black classmates worked for a firm this summer and 90% of my white classmates were told their applications would not be considered until 2L year.0 -

I have no doubt there are plenty of smart black people out there. What I don't like is black people who aren't smarter than some white people taking their slots in college enrollments.
Thomas Sowell is without a doubt smarter than me and he knows the problem with blacks in this country b/c he is one.All I know is that to see, and not to speak, would be the great betrayal.

Dude, I'm talking about people who have GRADUATED from law school, and from one of the finest in the country. I dunno, maybe you're on a different planet than I am. All I know is that blacks were treated like the plague where I went.0 -

CorporateWhore wrote:Nothing else you said was really a legitimate argument. It was all bullshit. This is your argument: "you're a racist." That's all you needed to say because nothing else you say will get the attention you want. Everything else was a support for this underlying theme of "you're a racist; therefore, you are wrong."
The problem is: if I talk about race and IQ, I am immediately a racist. Nevermind the fact that Phillippe Rushton and his group have studied this and few people have even bothered to oppose his research because they are afraid what they may discover. This is a cultural taboo and if you come out on the wrong side, you're labelled a follower of Hitler.
This is what Hitler would've wanted: us to shut down all discussion about race in favor of cultural platitudes and overgeneralizations.
You don't like affirmative action because it gives black people an advantage over white people like you in getting into college, etc. I reply -- but lots of people get advantages over white people like you. Such as people with talent -- athletes and musicians. And rich people. And you reply . . . what? I'm full of shit.
Different skin color is genetic -- everything else about race is just something that we make up. Your lily white skin ain't nothing but a risk factor for skin cancer, buddy.
I'll see your Wikipedia and raise you a peer-reviewed journal. Here's an article, in a journal published by the American Psychological Association, of which J. Phillippe Rushton is a proud member.

And dude, really, stop citing Wikipedia for anything other than trivia. It's just embarassing.
No one wants to stop a discussion of race. I've had a lot of really good talks with people who think that race-based affirmative action has played itself out and should be replaced by an affirmative action that accounts more for socioeconomic factors -- a thought-provoking idea. But you? You actually seem to think that blacks are inferior to whites, and wow!! That's just shocking!
(Oh, and for the record, I believe you were the first to play the Hitler card. But you know, Hitler loved eugenics and supported a lot of "scientists" who claimed that there was a scientific basis for claims of racial difference and inferiority. So why don't we put Hitler away?)
Own your racism. Embrace it."Things will just get better and better even though it
doesn't feel that way right now. That's the hopeful
idea . . . Hope didn't get much applause . . .
Hope! Hope is the underdog!"

I bring this wikipedia link into the argument as a reminder that the black population in Canada is slightly different than the one here in the States.
And I ask one more time: Is anyone on the Train black? And if so, have you or would you like to join this discussion?Feels Good Inc.0 -

What that translates is "let me not take responsibility while you continue to struggle. Fuhget about it".
I agree with you about native Americans, but how can you at once make such comments about the indiginous population, and tell Blacks to "fuckin' get over it already"?Makes much more sense, to live in the present tense.

Bullshit.
Its not even a matter of oppression, even though it still happens. Its a matter of social circumstance that can be directly attributed to their experience here in the United States. Truthmonger wrote:apparently, if you live in Toronto. Everywhere i go in my daily travels I'm struck by this one conspicuous phenomenon. In one of the most multicultural cities on the planet, where people are supposed to blind to colour, it is staggering to see the divisions in the workplace. Go to a franchaised coffee shop, go to a restaurant, go to the backrooms of hotels, both large and small, and witness discrimination at work. I used to go to this one coffee shop where all the patrons were white, and where every single employee behind the counter was someone of colour.
I'm sorry to bore people, but something needs to be said. Its appalling. I refuse to believe that all these people are there b/c thats all they're trained to do, or are capable of. I'm ashamed to live in this city at times.
I've alaso been to lots of coffee shops , restaurants , shops etc . in Toronto where the employees are white . I've been to many places where there is a mixture of races . My niece works in a restaurant where one of her managers is coloured ...... so what ?

Assuming these figures are correct, would it be unreasonable to assume that the number of African Americans joining the military has decreased by 38% since 2001, because they are now able to get jobs that they once would not have been considered for, or because their IQ is not perhaps as low as people perceive? Or is it because they have finally realized they don't have to 'serve anyone' anymore? They are equal. The same as you and i.
The number of blacks joining the military has plunged by more than one-third since the Afghanistan and Iraq wars began. Other job prospects are soaring and relatives of potential recruits increasingly are discouraging them from joining the armed services.
According to Pentagon data, there were nearly 51,500 new black recruits for active duty and reserves in 2001. That number fell to less than 32,000 in 2006, a 38 percent decline.

It was 2001, hardly a different era. Mind you, Halifax, Nova Scotia isn't Illinois. As for your numbers re: employment let me suggest a thing or two. I can't speak as to why black 1st yr. students are getting hired foir summer jobs, but generally speaking, where I was, firms never wanted 1st yr. students, period. They had no use for 'em.
The last time I actually inquired about these people, oh, say 2004 or so, most still didn't have jobs at the more prestigious firms. There was instead a certain marginalization that took place, wherein they found jobs in other law-related areas like legal-aid services, certain gov't dept's that required someone with a legal background, that sort of thing. Some just gave up. Its sad. There were some bright people who never really got a chance.0 -
