that's relevant. and that's what it's all about right? popularity. why bother with addressing serious issues when you focus on popularity? seriously, it's all about emotion...we need more politicians that make us feel good...as opposed to those who actually address serious issues and are more concerned with dealing with reality than their own self-absorbed narcissism. Given our obsession with reality tv and all the crap...i'm guessing the most popular politicians are the worst. And you ask me what I want this year

what are the substantive reasons we should support him?
I already gave sufficient reasoning from my POV, he's the best guy ever...at least in my lifetime.
Substantive reasons would probably be covered in his Audacity Of Hope book should you take a notion to read such things.hate was just a legend0 -

Not really.
Essentially, he established an illegal dictatorship. He ignored the constitution and enlarged the federal government.
He did poorly. All I know is that to see, and not to speak, would be the great betrayal.

He's a Reagan conservative and I like that. Juliani will run into problems with conservatives with his pro-choice, pro-gay and pro-gun control views.
See... Imput. Not zingers. You should try it.
Both Gingrich and Mayor 9-11 have incidents in their respective pasts that would be brought up during the GOP primary if either or both decide to run."Of course it hurts. You're getting fucked by an elephant."0 -

yeah, thanks for engaging.
i respect people like denis kucinich, howard dean, etc...b/c they are real...hell..it's why i respect most of the left posters on here. they have their firm beliefs and don't bullshit you. people that follow charisma when choosing politicians...it's kinda pathetic. And you ask me what I want this year

Oh, you betcha. Tancredo/Hunter 2008!!! *snickers*
I know you're probably just trying to get a rise out of people, but I'll try to humor you.
His ultra-punitive stance on immigration will see to that. It's the only thing most people know about him, and the majority of Americans aren't NEARLY as far right as he is on the issue. All his maniac raving about culture wars and a Hispanic invasion are going to turn off lots of people, even some Republicans.
Florida's a pretty important state on the electoral map. How's he going to win there after calling Miami a "slum"?"Of course it hurts. You're getting fucked by an elephant."0 -

Actually he called it a third world country.
And he will win because hispanics can't vote since they're illegal. All I know is that to see, and not to speak, would be the great betrayal.

There's something to your arguement, but would you apply that standard to Reagan? He was hugely popular and considered by many to be extremely telegenic.
As far as Obama, I'm not really understanding the level of animosity I'm seeing towards him. None of the guys that are positioning themselves to run have offered anything substantial as far as initiatives or policy proposals. Why should Obama have to roll out a 9 point plan to fix Social Security if Newt Gingrich doesn't?"Of course it hurts. You're getting fucked by an elephant."0 -

Sure. That's why the GOP courted the Hispanic vote so heavily in 2004, because none of them can vote. Genius."Of course it hurts. You're getting fucked by an elephant."0 -

Reagan was very good with the media...but he was committed, and as it turns out...defined an ideology. He is the reason why the US is different than Europe in the present day.
My point isn't really with Obama, or Newt (whom I find to be a vile human being) it's about our current way of choosing leaders. We focus on personal qualities rather than ideas...and I think it sucks. ALL of the current candidates (besides kucinich and tancredo) are like that. That's why I think we lack leadership. And you ask me what I want this year

Heh.
Many hispanic voters are legal citizens. Hispanic-American vote may be a more proper term. And you also have the hispanic vote consisting of illegals, which to be frank, neither party is in any real hurry to suppress.
But yeah, you're the smartest guy in the thread."Sarcasm: intellect on the offensive"

I agree to a great extent, but my liberalism biases me, and I feel that we'll hear more worthy ideas from an Obama campaign than we're likely to get from a Tancredo campaign. Tancredo definitely has a concrete "idea" for the country, but I happen to think it's a big flaming turd."Of course it hurts. You're getting fucked by an elephant."0 -

I doubt you'd have to be prodded too much to bring up Clinton. Fire away."Of course it hurts. You're getting fucked by an elephant."0 -

haha, yeah, and that's what I think about kucinich of course...I just respect the embracing of ideas rather than personalities when it comes to politics.
My ideal Republican candidate would be Santorum, but I am a right wing whacko...and I know that would never happen.
But my overall point is that I'm just looking for SOMEONE, of either party, to start speaking the truth instead of vagaries so they can become a political rock star. And my criticism isn't just at obama, but also at McCain, Rudy, and Mit. I think everyone is looking for leadership, regardless of party. And you ask me what I want this year
