If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

I'm pretty sure all the definitions are user submits. I just like it 'cause it says what people think of when they hear the word, which isn't always the exact definition.
The 80's were pretty fruity though.I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Your nature is to do harm, mine is to love truth, and to make it public in spite of you. - Voltaire0 -

Ahnimus wrote:Actually the increase in white matter occurs primarily in the Amygdala. Which is the emotiona centre, or gateway to the limbic system.
The point is that the adults in our culture essentially program the children, causing them to fit these models we've created. So long as we continue to say "Men/Women are like this..." they will be. By saying it we are hard-wiring it into our children, they then behave according to expectations, for the most part.
Then the question remains, is it bad or good to have these distinct gender roles? According to women's liberation, it's a bad thing. Then we abolish this perception that men/women are better suited for specific roles within the family. This means women are not better parents naturally and men are not better workers as studies have shown. The differences are only from individual to individual. Perhaps we should look at the mass of white and grey matter of the amygdala in both parents to determine who is 'better'. But I don't think that's the only determining factor in what makes a good parent.
I'm referring to the corpus callosum, which connects the left and right hemispheres of the brain.
"Newsweek stated in 1992 that the corpus callosum was 'Often wider in the brains of women than in those of men, it may allow for greater cross talk between the hemispheres—possibly the basis for woman’s "intuition". It has also been used, for example, as the explanation of an increased single-task orientation of male, relative to female, learners; a smaller male corpus is said to make it harder for the left and right sides of the brain to work together and to explain a greater feminine ability to multitask."
"...more recent studies using new techniques revealed morphological sex differences in human corpus callosum. Whether, and to what extent, these morphological differences are associated with behavioural and cognitive differences between males and females is unclear".
It looks like according to science, how all this is tied together, and what causes what is unclear, without adding in beliefs and theories.

I agree with this, basically. I think it's very important to decide on an individual basis. We cannot judge one person as per a gender role, even with generalities, or we practise a programmed lack of discernment and stereotyping."The opposite of a fact is falsehood, but the opposite of one profound truth may very well be another profound truth." ~ Niels Bohr

It's also unclear if there is a difference. This section you left out...wikipedia.com wrote:Unusually, the scientific dispute in the case of the corpus callosum is not about the implications of biological difference, but whether such a difference actually exists. A substantial review paper performed a meta-analysis of 49 studies and found, contrary to de Lacoste-Utamsing and Holloway, that males have a larger corpus callosum, a relationship that is true whether or not account is taken of larger male brain size.[1]I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. I actually don't agree that one side of the brain is emotional and the other side is logical. I also don't agree that "intuition" is a product of coherence between the left and right hemispheres, intution comes from the prefrontal insular cortex, as far as I know.
Some studies have shown that the brain doesn't operate solely on one side at a time, it all operates together, in tandem.I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny.
