    You are by no means a troll. You discuss issues whereas some posters will post flamatory comments that they know will get people to respond in kind. Then the thread becomes a "my dad can beat up your dad" back and forth that solves nothing.

    That's my point, though--being exactly who I am here, where I'm generally treated with civility, I was completely outcasted over at the CS board. Because I'm so radical, doncha know.

    I think the concept of troll is a myth--and a way of minimising the view of the rejected people.

    The people who are inflaming--and some of the most "normal" ones here do it every day-- they have reasons too, in my mind.

    That's only a few but there's been a lot more. And I would like to believe that my posts can be used as examples. I've seen several good debates that helped people increase their knowledge about a particular situation. What I was talking about was people hijacking threads that otherwise could have been good discussions and turning them into "my dick is bigger than yours" contest. I stated that a lot of good would come if people just ignored the stuff that pissed them off or just didnt open the threads that they knew would upset them, a lot of this wouldnt be a problem. I will admit though, when the same shit is being slung by the same people and it ends up on everything, it's hard to ignore it.

    From the Urban Dictionary ... not exactly an "official" source, I know, but this is pretty much what I think of as a troll:

    "One who purposely and deliberately (that purpose usually being self-amusement) starts an argument in a manner which attacks others on a forum without in any way listening to the arguments proposed by his or her peers. He will spark of such an argument via the use of ad hominem attacks with no substance or relevence to back them up, as well as straw man arguments, which he uses to simply avoid addressing the essence of the issue."

    I really don't want to say...it would not be helpful...I should have kept my thoughts to myself..I do think some do come here just to prick people off, but that's my opinion and others may not see it that way, therefore, I think naming names would not be good...I also don't want to come off like I'm perfect...I add to the problem, too....by responding rathering than ingoring...

    if that makes any sense...

    Let me ask you something. Since this thread is so pointless why did you feel the need to comment on it, effectively putting it back on the top of this page, increasing the number of comments on it, and therefore increasing the curiosity of people wondering what you have to say which, in turn, may increase the number of posts which also keeps the thread at the top of the page? I don't take offense that you think the thread is pointless. I just figured if you thought it was pointless then you wouldnt bother commenting on it.

    I think that most people who come off as trollish, for example in this thread, do it unintentionally. I think people get all riled up in their own arguments and they come off as troll-some. The people who just sit on the sidelines and throw fecal matter, they are very few and far between. I'm not fond of the word being misused to apply to well-intended but dysfunctioning people who are being socially ostracised for unpopular or angered views, though.

    Not to center in specifically here on the MB, but this medium of communication has a tendency to move people towards neurotic locales within the mind outside of normal human interaction.
