"Democratic White House contender Barack Obama says the US would be fully committed to Israel's security if he is elected president.

"America's commitment to Israel's security is unshakable," the 46-year-old presidential hopeful said Thursday during a brief speech at a celebration to mark the 60th anniversary of Israel.

"I am absolutely convinced that our friendship between the two nations is unbreakable, the Illinois senator added.
"
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

that's such a terrible thing for him to say. we all know that Jews shouldn't be safe anywhere on earth.

I have no problem with America being dedicated to the Israeli people. But their "unbreakable" friendship with the Israeli government isn't America being big brother to a little underdog country. It's supporting a country that's illegally occupying another country. Birds of a feather, eh?

Okay, I should have said "part of another country". But there are enough other threads on that topic that have been locked. My point is, pledging "unbreakable" friendship to a government that's knowingly ignoring UN laws isn't the best way for America to do its business.

I guess the US can't expect Israel to follow all these "international laws" when they make as much of a habit of breaking them.

I'm not following. I'm assuming that by saying "illegally occupying land", you mean they have no right to be where they are? is that what you're saying?

i'm saying they have no right to be living on illegal settlements in the occupied territories which even the UN has told them they must leave and yet.....

elaborate please? illegal settlements? set up when? pre-1900? post WWI? post WWII? 1960s? 1990s? when exactly did these "illegal settlements" that you speak of come about?

Gimme a break. You know we're talking about Palestine. Spare me the "Israel are innocently looking for a home" spin. We both know they're illegally occupying Palestinian territories, killing hundreds of innocent civilians in the process.

gee thanks. I think we all know we're talking about Palestine here, thanks for clearing that up. the part I'm asking about is......."We both know they're illegally occupying Palestinian territories, killing hundreds of innocent civilians in the process". I mean, I've read the history of Israel. I know about the Ottoman Empire's defeat in WWI. the British Mandate over Palestine from the League of Nation's post WWI treaty. I know about the mass immigration's to Palestine. the British pulling out per the League of Nations, Israel's declaration of independence, victory over Arab invaders. I know all that. I just don't know what part you're referring to as being "illegal"?

Ask the UN. They'll make it nice and clear for you.

when you say "UN", are you referring to the "United Nations"? as in, the UN that the arab league thumbed their noses at when they declared war on Israel in 1948? cracking a history book open would make it nice and clear for you.

are you a member of the PLO or the Nazi party by any chance? I mean, it seems to me you spend most of your time on here reporting on Israeli atrocities that are only posted on anti-Israel websites and can't be found on any legitimate news site.
