  • Doesn't this film imply that we in the UK are totally happy with our NHS?

    national healthcare......

    run by the government.........

    would be a fucking disaster............

Could it be any more of a disaster than it is already?
Keep on rockin in the free world!!!!

The economy has polarized to the point where the wealthiest 10% now own 85% of the nation’s wealth. Never before have the bottom 90% been so highly indebted, so dependent on the wealthy.

No thanks. I firmly believe universal or socialized healthcare would be even worse than what we have.

I think we should outlaw health insurance and let doctors and institutions compete for patients who have to pay out of their own pockets.

While I think that your approach sounds good on paper, I just don't see how it would work any better then what is in place now.

What about people who can't afford health care? They would be in the same position now, but with a little lower medical bills that they could never pay.

Also, I don't think it wouldn't help preventative care, thus making the bills higher down the road. If I have a stomach ache for a while, I might not have the few hundred dollars lying around for the doctors appointments or tests that right now would be pretty much free under my work insurance that I only pay $36 a month for. So I might ignore the stomach pain for a while and eventually have to go in and the problem is 10x worse and 10x more expensive.

That's the point. Do you think anyone's going to go to the doctor for a stomach ache if it costs them that much? So is a doctor going to look out at an empty waiting room, or is she going to try to lower the costs so that she can at least bring in some money?

Also, think about those premiums paid by your work. What if insurance didn't exist and they gave that money to you in higher salaries. Then you might have more to spend on preventative care if you were responsible.

Remember - we're all paying for healthcare now. It's just that it doesn't seem like it as it's withdrawn automatically from our pay and spread out over time.

I think some eyes would be opened if your employer actually gave you the money and made you pay the health insurance premiums (which does happen in some small companies.

That is the only thing that bothers me about this movie (and I guess that is what you get with Moore)... He portrays other healthcare systems as basically perfect and I'm sure that's an exaggeration. However, I think his portrayal of our insurance system is spot on, and even if he is 80% right about the other countries' systems, they still have to be better than ours right now.

The whole idea of a third-party company making money off of my health problems disgusts me... The doctor/hospital should make a profit on healthcare, that is their business and livelihood... however an outside insurance company which is in the business to make a profit will never have my (or my doctor's) best interests in mind.

Maybe create tax free Health Savings Accounts and make participation mandatory. Mandate a certain percentage of salary that must be deposited, but otherwise employees are free to up the contribution and have complete control over where to invest the money. As a back up, institute mandatory catastophic insurance to cover serious injury & illness, similar to car insurance.

Yea, you may want to pay Canadian taxes as well. Or else we will be in the same boat as the U.S.A. we are already at threat of mass privatization of health care.
Massp privitization of health care is a bogus scare. Everyone's family doctor is already providing privitized health care. The only thing thing people should care about is there being a single payor (gov't) at prescribed rates only.
