So I just watched SiCKO...

The movie leaked a few days ago, so I downloaded it last night and watched it this evening, and it really had an affect on me.
Granted, it is a Michael Moore movie, so I reserved a bit of skepticism going into it, but even with some exaggeration taken into consideration, what I saw amazed me.
There is no reason why we can't have some comprehensive medical care in this country... Just watching some of the absolutely heartbreaking stories from some of the americans who have gotten the shaft from the healthcare system, then seeing that juxtaposed against the coverage in other countries that we are told to look down upon is actually embarrassing.... absolutely embarrassing....
How is it that other countries can pull this off? Is it because our country is so large, or are we that inefficient, or just that the people who are making so much off of our current system are the ones who make the policy and put out the propaganda against change?
"Who are we? Is this what we've become?"

But Im lucky enough to live in Canada.
There is no reason you dont have better health care.
Other than the fact that the people running your country were/are too greedy and couldnt.cant come together to put money and sweat into it.
Some states want this and some want that.
Some only care about oil and others have not enough people that care.
Some desperatly want this to happen and then an election is on the horrizon and a ballot is put out and they tag something stupid like "everyone should wear purple pants on tuesdays" on to the end of it and it doesnt get passed.
Start petitions.
Make some noise.
Up here there are greedy people who want the free health care to go bye bye.
Im hopeing that when SICKO is out that people up here will see it and it will open thier eyes to what could happen if we dont keep up what we have.
And people say to themselves oh dont worry then we will just pay for insurance and I have lots of money. Yeah well jsut wait. the rich get fucked too.
Cant wait to see the movie.

The economy has polarized to the point where the wealthiest 10% now own 85% of the nation’s wealth. Never before have the bottom 90% been so highly indebted, so dependent on the wealthy.
I feel sorry for those born and living in the US at the moment....no doubt about...100% it HAS to change. US citizens are getting so screwed... seriously though it's criminal... and rotten from the inside out...literally....

If we had better preventative health care, so many of the health problems that cost so much money to treat would go away. But I guess there is so much more money to be made treating (and prolonging) illnesses and conditions then there is to prevent it.

To clarify for the irony catchers, my board name represents the official bootlegs, nothing illegal.
Why don't you pay $8 like a decent human being? Is that too difficult? Can you afford that while you are sitting in your parents basements burning stuff off of the internet?
I can't wait to watch it! Maybe my parents will come down here and watch it, too!! I'll get mom to pop the popcorn!!

Haha. Nice job.
I really liked the comment that was along the lines of "the French government is afraid of the people while the American people are afraid of their government". That pretty much sums up how the poor can be shit on in the US and they are taken care of in civilized countries.
The whole time I pictured the guy from fantasy island (Ricardo Montalban) saying the entire script waving his arms to and fro with little make believe streamers flying off in the fantasy island dream sequence....
A "yes boss" at the end would have been the least you could have done...
seriously though
your tatoo factor was lacking entirely.....boo!!

De plane! De plane!
blah blah blah... I think that you've cornered the market on self-righteousness and over-generalizations.

I have not seen the new movie, but I can only imagine what he presents...
It is time we used the momentum of this movie and made damn sure that we create a fair and functional socialized health care system in the United States NOW!
Imagine what we could accomplish if we were no longer afraid of being in danger when we speak out? Face it, the reason you don't push for better in this country is because you don't want to rock the boat and become marginalized... possibly losing your job... and losing your health care... If you knew you'd be taken care of if you lost your job... at least in the way of health... wouldn't you stand?
If you stand behind the issue of universal health care, then the least you can do is get 2 people (who wouldn't normally watch) to go and see it with you... If you can't do the least, then why the hell do you even care? For those of you who can do more, lets rise up and begin nation wide protests demanding universal health care now!

It is a new age, and your ways are old hat... The times are a changin' and the internet community has spoken. So, you being the minority here can bite me!
I have complete respect for Michael Moore! In fact, I will be seeing the movie opening day! Although, I've already downloaded it and shown it to my family... I will even buy the DVD when it comes out, even though I already have it on my HDD...
I think you shouldn't drink the record industries Kool-aid so soon... They may be losing out on money, but what they are really afraid of losing is control over the entire markets of music and movies... It is something they shouldn't have had control over in the first place...
WE ARE TAKING IT BACK!

it's worth it so I'll probably still go and see it at the theater as well.
haha....I loved that they put this in the end credits:
Any American interested in marrying a Canadian for health care can go to: http://www.hook-a-canuck.com

No thanks. I firmly believe universal or socialized healthcare would be even worse than what we have.
I think we should outlaw health insurance and let doctors and institutions compete for patients who have to pay out of their own pockets.

That's an interesting view. Care to explain why you think this way?
How would you feel if your tax dollars went towards keeping everyone alive and well, and you had to pay "defense insurance" to build a military to go secure Iraq?
Probably about the same way I do now - I'd be against it.

Cool, but would you prefer this? to have everyone fit and healthy, and a choice if you want to pay for war or not?
I believe that the health insurance industry is the biggest inflator of medical costs. It is in its best interest to "insure" that nobody can afford to pay for anything - even a simple routine check-up - without insurance.
If people had to pay for most medical items - prescriptions, treatments, doctor visits, etc., then I believe the market would cause the prices to be lower. Are doctors really going to keep their rates that high and have very few, if any, patients? I do not believe they would.
Furthermore, we're really all paying for them now anyways - just spread out over monthly insurance premiums....AND we're adding in the profit for the health insurance companies, so we're really paying more.
I think there would be some merit in catastrophic health insurance for major illnesses or injuries, but the premiums should be lower than what we've got now.

It sounds good on paper, but I'd honestly be opposed to it for a couple of reasons. One is that I do not believe government should be involved in this - or many, many, many other things it's involved in.
And second, because you can't force people to be fit and healthy against their will. If we're going to subsidize everyone's health, then we ought to be able to dictate how they should keep themselves healthy - ie. no smoking, drinking, strictly controlled diet, plenty of exercise, etc.

without the related name calling - probably the one time i agree with dude ...
it's stealing ... but i guess property rights are subject to one's personal belief these days ...
