The "ungratefulness" was spun by the US Government, not by it's citizens. The "freedom fries" were isolated incidents that the media sensationalized.

I was in Florida last year and popped into a bar where they had freedom fries on the menu!

Dont you get it? We're all sheep, or "sheeple". Media fed and fattened to beleive everthing that fox news offers in front of us. Everyone but Americans are enlightened to the absolute truth regaurding world events.

I haven't once said that. The British are also as guilty of harbouring a jingoistic belief that 'We' saved Europe and that D-day was the grand occasion and pivotal moment of the 2nd World War.
Still, you surely can't deny that, just as in Britain, about 99% of people probably haven't even heard of Stalingrad, Kursk, or the battle of Moscow? In fact, I'd go so far as to hazard a guess that about 50% of people in Britain and America combined probably don't even know that the Ruskies were involved in World war 2.

You should be thanking our Grandparents that you aren't speaking German right now.

Europeans should be thanking Americans' grandparents that they are not speaking German right now?

Nice example of American ignorance if you ask me.

The roll the US played in WO II should not be marginalised, but that same roll is often glorified by Americans, which is just as bad, imo.

And if I should be thanking anyone's grandparents, it's Canadians'.

I didn't try any. Although I did ask her "So, do these freedom fries taste any different to French fries?" and she replied "We don't use that word in here!", and so I said "What word, 'fries'?" As you can imagine, we didn't exactly hit it off. :o

how about some sources for these "facts". US helped defeat Germany during WW2. without American the war would not have been won.

That's bullshit, it would be more accurate to say without the U.S. Germany would be part of Russia.

Man, you're pretty good at putting words in my mouth.

RTFT and then get back to me w/ something more than a 13 yr old's rhretoric.

those were my words, not yours...I was just building upon the common notion that when someone criticizes US actions and policies, both past and present, that "those people" hate freedom and they always blame America...which implies America is perfect and can do no wrong....

and yes, I did read the fuckin thread and I don't appreciate your cussing at me...talk about 13 year old's rhetoric...your pattern of cursing at people shows a great deal about you and you lack of coping skills...

Or Russia would be a part of Germany... or at least, some sort of Treaty would have been proposed to give Russia parts of Europe the Germans wanted no part of.
    ...
And we also have to all look at the facts...
Germany declared war on the United States on December 8, 1941. Why? Believing U.S. sea power was serverly damaged or destroyed in Pearl Harbor (which, was NOT part of America in 1941) German U-Boats could freely sink U.S. flagged merchant ships in the Atlantic as acts of War, not crimes on the high seas. Cutting England's U.S. supply line was vital to Germany's success in Europe.
This turned out to be not such a good idea.
    ...
Russia delcared war on Japan the day after the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb attack. Why? So Russia could claim the isolated islands north of Japan as their own. Turns out, these islands served as strategic launch points for future Soviet missiles pointed at the U.S. They also served as isolated research and development sites for Soviet aircraft... that may have been the reason Korean Air Flight 007 was shot down by Soviet MiGs. They flew too close to or crossed over restricted Soviet airspace.

Yea man, there is a book called "The Illustrated History of the Third Reich" it goes into detail all of the battle plans and manuevers of the second world war. It doesn't cover anything post-war though so nothing about Russia and the Berlin wall. It's all about stratagies and the different dialog between leaders. The main reason Hitler gained so much ground was because the allies were fucking stupid. The reason Hitler ended up losing was because he was fucking stupid. Like Hitler knew that he was losing but decided to invade Russia anyway, he thought he was protected from God, the guy was really nuts by that point.

I'll have to read the book again because I can't remember everything, actually I can remember very little of the General's names or the actually battles that were fought. Besides the obvious ones, Omaha Beach, Battle of the Bulge, etc.. The book also has a lot of pictures from the war, pretty strange to see dead soldiers laying in the street and civilians causually strolling by.

It's because they know one German, Hitler and he shouted like an idiot and made it sound a very strict and not beautiful language.
