If 'Misanthropic' means 'Damn Sexy' and 'Solipsism' means 'Running Naked Through a Field' then, it's all been worth it.

The power of the mind is great...

No , it's not, it just gives instructions to muscles to creat mevemnt. My father would not have spent 13yr in a wheelchair after his stroke if the mind was that powerful.

Mind influences mind, but not physical objects.
    Music is not a competetion.

You choose not to read the clock. That's it. That's all you're doing.
Nothing to do with the existance of time or not... you choose to do your chores at whenever you want. Big deal. I sleep til noon on Saturday... by my choosing. Therefore, time ceases to exist for the rest of the world? I think not.
But, whatever. Go ahead and choose not to believe in time... we have people here who believe they are ancestors of aliens cross-bred with humans... it's a free country.

i never said i didn't believe in time. i said nobody can prove the existance of time. time is a belief; like God. we believe time exists but it can't be proven.

after my stroke and subsequent brain surgery; my family was told that if i ever come out of the coma; i'd be a vegetable the rest of my life. he told them to wait 3 days and if i survive; to start making arrangements with a home.
the mind can do great things but you must teach it how.

    Not quite the same...
Saying you believe that time exists is like saying you believe air exists.
    ...
You simply do not apply the clock to your life... that's all. Nothing philosophical about that.

Um......doesn't matter if the brain does give instruction to perfectly healthy muscle if the nerves don't work.

Sad about your Dad lucy, I'm very sorry to hear it. :(

But mental determination can play a part in the outcome for a patient.

Perhaps not leaping out of a wheelchair in all cases, but certainly there are things that can be improved physically with the use of brain power.

"[Niels]Bohr (1949) drew attention to the limits of human reason by citing what he referred to as an “old saying.” According to that old saying, there are two kinds of truths: one kind is an ordinary truth, which is so simple and clear that its opposite is obviously false, while the other kind is a deep truth, whose opposite is also a deep truth."
"The opposite of a fact is falsehood, but the opposite of one profound truth may very well be another profound truth." ~ Niels Bohr

I see, yet again, that some of us are completely unable to be respectful and accepting of other people's points of view. Frankly it's rather pathetic and tiresome. So as this appears to be degenerating into yet another pissing contest, I'm out!

    Shame. Again!

Some of us do seem able to discuss things respectful of differing views, but yet again, who's hanging around for the BULLSHIT!!! THE REAL BULLSHIT!!!

Good night, I'm off back to bed, hopefully a sleep will help get the bad taste out of my mouth and the vile vibe out of my mind.

I agree that attitude and determination play a huge role in prognosis, but that is not the same as saying that the mind can control things when there is no connection, as you have pointed out, knowing it the hard way.

With regard to Roland, teh family always gets the worst case prognosis when some-one blows an aneurysm, based on what has happened beofre. There is a lot owe still have to learn about brain plasticity and the ability for healing and relearning. I certainly hope you have deomnstarted a lot of brain plasticity, for your sake. No-one is happier than teh doctors when their gloomy prognoses are wrong.

Read some Molière, you plebs. :D

    http://www.bibliomania.com/0/6/4/1967/frameset.html

It'll only take you an hour. It's in translation, too. Count yourself lucky. I was tempted to link you the French text.

If you want an example of another misanthrope, here you go. Read this:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steppenwolf_%28novel%29

Now, as for solipsism, read Mrs Dalloway or The Waves by Virginia Woolf. Her characters are alienated from everything but their own desperately clutched excrement.

Is any of this stuff factual?
