The ships were said to be within seconds of ordering the crew to open fire before the Iranians broke off, but why did it take so long? We should have blown the boats out of the water

TEHRAN (AFP) - Iran accused the United States on Wednesday of "clumsily" fabricating footage claiming to show Iranian speedboats harassing US ships, as Washington issued a new warning to its archfoe on the first day of a Middle East visit by President George W. Bush.

"The voices and pictures broadcast by the Pentagon about the latest incident have been fabricated so clumsily that the pictures and voices in the video are not even synchronized," the Guards commander added.

"That fact that it is a fake is clear to all."

Before arriving in Israel, Iran's arch enemy, Bush lashed out at Tehran for what he described as a "provocative act" in the strategic waterway.

"We viewed it as a provocative act. It is a dangerous situation and they should not have done it, pure and simple," Bush declared on his first visit to the Jewish state since taking office in 2001.

The Pentagon dismissed as "absurd" Iran's accusation that it had faked the video footage and warned that it was prepared to use force if its warships were threatened in international waters.

We had a fleet of at least what looked like 2 destroyers or cruisers (?not a navy guy) and apparently 2+ (i heard someone say 5 on the film) BOATS ... little speed boats ...

We're talking a bout a tiny little 3rd rate dictatorship with a puppet president that apparently feels somewhat rationaly IRRITATED with us, and their troops, probably of their own volition (you think command told them, "hey go piss off those ships!") decided to get frisky with some destroyers.

The USS Cole was hit by a small boat and did major damage and killed people. It was the the Islamic Republic of Iran Revolutionary Guard Navy which from what I understand is completely seperate from the regular Iranian Navy and doesn't fall under the direct control of the Iranian government. Sounds confusing to me.
But from what I have read these confrintations happen somewhat often but after the two sides identify themselves everyone moves on. It just seems this time they decided to screw with the US ships. I am just glad no shots were fired because all hell would be breaking loose.
