When I read this article I thought the exact thing. Pretty sad when I dont believe anything my government tells me anymore. Ten years ago i would have believed every word in the statement.
  • Russia is the only reason Iran is not in pieces and smoldering right now.

Iran is smack dab at the center of the bullseye, and the wolves are getting hungrier by the minute.

It would take a miracle for Iran not to be attacked.

WASHINGTON - In what U.S. officials called a serious provocation, Iranian boats harassed and provoked three U.S. Navy ships in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, threatening to explode the American vessels.

The official said he didn't have the precise transcript of communications that passed between the two forces, but said the Iranians radioed something like "we're coming at you and you'll explode in a couple minutes."

Iranian officials were not immediately available for comment Monday, and there was no news of the incident on Iranian state-run media.

"Without specific reference to this incident in the Strait of Hormuz, the United States will confront Iranian behavior where it seeks to do harm either to us or to our friends and allies in the region," McCormack told reporters. "There is wide support for that within the region and certainly that's not going to change."

Bush is still pushing for a conflict with Iran. He (Israel) needs those waterways. Plus, the Caspian seaway is reported to hold billions in oil reserves.

Pentagon Says Ships Harassed by Iran

WASHINGTON (Jan. 7) - In what is being called a serious provocation, Iranian Revolutionary Guard boats harassed and provoked three U.S. Navy ships in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, officials said Monday.

U.S. forces were on the verge of firing on the Iranian boats in the early Sunday incident, when the boats ended the incident and turned and moved away, said a Pentagon official.

"It is the most serious provocation of this sort that we've seen yet," said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the record.

The incident occurred at about 5 a.m. local time Sunday as a U.S. Navy cruiser, destroyer and frigate were transiting the strait on their way into the Persian Gulf.

"Five small boats were acting in a very aggressive way, charging the ships, dropping boxes in the water in front of the ships and causing our ships to take evasive maneuvers," the Pentagon official said.

"There were no injuries but there very well could have been," he said, adding that the Iranian boats turned away "literally at the very moment that U.S. forced were preparing to open fire" in self defense.

He said he didn't have the precise transcript of communications that passed between the two forces, but the Iranians radioed something to the effect that "we're coming at you and you'll explode in a couple minutes."

Historical tensions between the two nations have increased in recent years over Washington's charge that Tehran has been developing nuclear weapons and supplying and training Iraqi insurgents using roadside bombs - the No. 1 killer of U.S. troops in Iraq.

In another incident off it's coast, Iranian Revolutionary Guard sailors last March captured 15 British sailors and held them for nearly two weeks.

The 15 sailors from HMS Cornwall, including one woman, were captured on March 23. Iran claims the crew, operating in a small patrol craft, had intruded into Iranian waters - a claim denied by Britain.

I understand the situation with Iran...I'm just saying those in the media understand it as well, and will sometimes use it to enhance their reporting. It could be a serious situation right now, and it could be nothing...since these stories come out all the time, it's hard to say. That was my point.

I hope it never has to. If it does, I will lose a chunk if inspiration for the future. Not over any one country and their actions in particular, just the whole circumstance of what life on this earth is all about (and going to be about).
Not that I don't already know (survival of the most apt), but it will just drive it home a little deeper that that situation is running away at an alarming rate.

Had a little revelation last night and again this morning and am getting a pang of free will tossed at me in 3D today.

Come on, when is the last time you had this much beforehand announcement and detail of a trip for Bush anywhere, let alone to the Middle East? We know were he is going and the fact that he is staying 3 days. Israel has made it a point to publicly outline the security precautions being taken, from extra police, to clearing air space, the fact the special helicopters are being flown in from the U.S. to Bush's use, plus all vehicles used by Bush and his people are being flown in from the States. That's allot of detail for Israel to release on any State visit. Even that silly converted American muslim was allowed to call for Bush's assassination and he's in a supermax prison.

You know there is going to be an attempt on Bush's life, just like his father's. In this scenario, a bunch of Israel citizens and, of course, some of their children will be killed. Israel, with the backing of the U.S., will have an excuse it needs to bomb Iran.

That will look much better in American eyes just like it did against Japan and it worked.

They also threw boxes into the water in the path of the ships and forced the ships to take evasive action.

What was the commanding officer of these three ships waiting for, an explosion? These people think of committing suicide to kill the enemy is a wonderful thing to do… Anyone there remember the USS COLE?

The ships were said to be within seconds of ordering the crew to open fire before the Iranians broke off, but why did it take so long? We should have blown the boats out of the water

They were asking for it, why didn’t we give it to them???

Like others have previously stated... 10 years ago I would have taken our government's word regarding this incident. Today... I question it.
    WHY?
Because of the way our government has behaved lately. Don't blame me... blame Bush, Cheney, Rove and the rest of those lying pieces of shit.

TEHRAN (AFP) - Iran accused the United States on Wednesday of "clumsily" fabricating footage claiming to show Iranian speedboats harassing US ships, as Washington issued a new warning to its archfoe on the first day of a Middle East visit by President George W. Bush.

"The voices and pictures broadcast by the Pentagon about the latest incident have been fabricated so clumsily that the pictures and voices in the video are not even synchronized," the Guards commander added.

"That fact that it is a fake is clear to all."

Before arriving in Israel, Iran's arch enemy, Bush lashed out at Tehran for what he described as a "provocative act" in the strategic waterway.

"We viewed it as a provocative act. It is a dangerous situation and they should not have done it, pure and simple," Bush declared on his first visit to the Jewish state since taking office in 2001.

The Pentagon dismissed as "absurd" Iran's accusation that it had faked the video footage and warned that it was prepared to use force if its warships were threatened in international waters.

The USS Cole was hit by a small boat and did major damage and killed people. It was the the Islamic Republic of Iran Revolutionary Guard Navy which from what I understand is completely seperate from the regular Iranian Navy and doesn't fall under the direct control of the Iranian government. Sounds confusing to me.
But from what I have read these confrintations happen somewhat often but after the two sides identify themselves everyone moves on. It just seems this time they decided to screw with the US ships. I am just glad no shots were fired because all hell would be breaking loose.

I know especially after all the neo-con and Israeli sentiment about loving Iran to death, and wanting to plant pretty flowers on it's soil.
