    That is accurate. Did you want to rename the United States holiday because it has the word Christ in it when we don't actually say Christ-Mas....we pronounce it Krismas?

    Again, it's about tradition of Christmas day.

    To me....and I suspect a lot of folks who do not go to church.....do not think about Christ or care really much about that fable still want the word Christmas to be used. Why you ask....not because of the word Christ....but because that is what we have been calling it for many, many years and that is the day (among many others throughout the year) that this country has recognized as a National Holiday.

    oh come on! It was a damn joke about a topic that really shouldnt be a topic in the first place. There's SO many different kinds of poeple in this country. People should remember that when someone wishes them them happy holidays or merry christmas or whateverthehellelse they say. Nowadays, people should just be happy that people are actually greeting them in a friendly matter. And I wasn't lashing out. I was making a joke. People take this issue way too far when common sense should kick in and end it in a mere matter of minutes.

    Anyone offended by "Happy Holidays" really needs to find real problems.

    I can tell you though, there are Christian folks who are upset & offended by teh commercialization of a holiday that celebrates the Birth of Christ, not so much people saying "Happy Holidays" or "Happy Jedi Yoda Day" or whatever.

    No, that is not exactly what you do. I say, if you celebrate Kwanzaa...then you should wish everyone a Happy Kwanzaa. You should not worry about what everyone else celebrates. You should not strip down your greeting for fear of offending someone. And you should not offer greetings or tidings for something you don't celebrate.

    Do you prnounce CHRIST-Mas....or do you pronounce it Krissmas? Do you think of Christ or do you think about family, friends, food, and gift giving?

    I am the latter.

    If it is a National Holiday then the government and schools should celebrate it openly.

    I am sure there are. But you can't really have it both ways. If we are to expect everyone to happily say Merry Christmas, we can't expect that Christ be put back in Chirstmas. Once the near-secularness of the holilday vanishes...let me put it this way: I am a Christmas-celebrating agnostic and have actually been told by someone that they are offended that I celbrate Christmas when I am not even a Christian. These people better not be the once bitching about "Happy Holidays."

    I don't care about the religious part......the fact is Christmas is a National Holiday and nobody should be afraid to celebrate it openly.

    I am one of these people. And I don't get bothered if someone says "Merry Christmas." I also don't get bothered if someone says "Happy Holidays." I use happy holidays to people I do not know, incase they don't celebrate Christmas. If that makes me PC, so be it.

    That's half my point. People shouldn't be offended by being greeted with a well wishing from a holiday they don't personally celebrate. And the other half of that is people shouldn't be whiting out the word Christmas (or Hanukkah or Kwanzaa) because they are afraid someone else doesn't celebrate it.

    Fanch....nobody has ever said they are offended by the greeting of Happy Holidays. My point is that phrase shouldn't be used because you are afraid of offending someone because they don't celebrate what you celebrate. Use it all day long if like i have already said you are trying to cover Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years with one fell swoop.

    I am advocating people taking down their guards and wishing people what YOU celebrate. People need to stop being worried about what everyone else does or whom they might offend by celebrating their holiday.

    Again, I would be elated to be wished a Happy Hanukkah. I would feel it way more sincere than a generic Happy Holidays because I don't know what you celebrate so I don't want to offend you...mentality.

    So if I know someone is Jewish and celebrates Hannukah, I should wish them a Happy Solstice? Why on earth would I do that?

    If not, what do you celebrate?

    If you do celebrate Christmas....then you should wish everyone a Merry Christmas....not an insincere greeting from a holiday you don't celebrate just to try and fit in or make everyone happy. And you shouldn't not say Christmas because you are afraid of offending someone...that is just silly being this is the United States and it is recognized as a National Holiday.,
