Politically correct holiday greetings or the old favorites?

  • Which is why its annoying when people here (in North America) insist on PC greetings.

i don't consdier it annoying, nor PC, to offer a generic, or a very specifgic, holiday greeting. i live in an extremely diverse area. while christians still probably outnumber all else, we still have a VERY high percentage of those from a jewish faith, and also a large # of muslims, ad hindus are a quickly growing population here as well. thus, why should i wish all say, a merry christmas? it makes ZERO sense. i find it far more apppropriate, respectul AND meaningful to wish all to enjoy THEIR holidays, have a great holiday, etc. well wishes should be seen just as that, well wishes...and i don't think one needs to be 'specific', unless for certain they KNOW what someone celebrates...but yea, i see nothing to support just wishing all a merry christmas when they don't celebrate. ewh well, MY wishes for all to enjoy their holidays are entirely sincere.....and i am MORE than happy if someone wishes me happy holidays if they don't know what i celebrate...guess that makes me PC. eh well.
    Stay with me...
    Let's just breathe...

I am myself like you somehow

  • Nope, not at all. I understand that Islam is the majority faith in most of these countries. Which is why its annoying when people here (in North America) insist on PC greetings.
See that's what I mean. Change isn't necessarily always good. If one comes to a country where Christianity is the main religion, they should expect to be wished a happy christmas. If I went to 'fill in the blank' and they wish me happy 'fill in the blank'... I'd be happy that they're not leaving me out of their celebrations. Yeh, if they know I'm catholic and say happy christmas to me that's also nice because they've bothered to find what I celebrate... BUT if they say happy holidays, that's just like saying 'ah happy whatever!' It's like you just pool them all into one big group and they ALL lose all meaning. IMHO... the MAIN word in political correctness is 'political', there's nothing 'correct' about it. It's just a political ploy to please everyone or to make a big deal where there is none. Speak to any of these minorities and I'd say you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who actually gives afuck if someone says happy christmas. It's my holiday and I want to give good wishes to everyone and that's that!

I think the world would be a much nicer place if people didn't take offense when others wished them well. If you don't celebrate Christmas and someone has the nerve to wish you a merry one, can't you just go ahead and try to have a merry day on the 25th anyway? By the same token, if you do celebrate Christmas and someone wishes you a happy holiday, say thank you! They want you to be happy on your holiday, how is that offensive?!

I blame Bill O'Reilly for creating an issue where there wasn't one. Of all the things we argue about in this country, this is surely the dumbest.

I could not have said it or heard it any better myself....thank you.

  • I believe in Denver there is a big upset b/c a lady hung a Christmas decoration that included a peace sign in the center. The neighbors were complaining b/c they felt she was being anti-war! They are wanting to charge her $25 a day to keep the decoration up!

    I am speechless honestly.

 Huh?????????? Can people not hang whatever they want as long as it's illegal??? How can the neighbours charge you because they disagree??? And of COURSE a peace sign is anti war

This is in a homeowners association...which means they cannot do whatever they want as long as it's not illegal. It has to be approved by the homeowners association board. Which is another topic all in itself!!
