My brother's one of the top barristers in the UK, and I just emailed him with that statement. He gives nine thumbs up and says you'll do well in the profession. ;)

hehe, glad to have his affirmation! now just ask him if he's got a line on any british firms looking for a summer intern from a top-notch american law school ;)

I'll take that seriously, Conor. We can talk about that in PMs, and I'll find out out what the deal is at my brother's chambers (which are in Gray's Inn, London, if you care to Google).

who am i if not the sum of my thoughts and actions?
Considering the ego is the sliver of us that interfaces with the world, our thoughts/actions that navigate our way in the world are a tiny portion of who we are. Granted, most people identify solely with the ego.

becos i'll take an honest douchebag over a hypocrite any day. at least the douchebag tells you he's offering you shit. the hypocrite is trying to convince you the shit is gold.
Are you saying you don't contradict yourself, ever?

not that i can recall. certainly not in the same sentence. also, there is a difference between contradiction and hypocrisy. for instance, contradiction might be a pro-lifer supporting the death penalty. hypocrisy is saying "you shouldn't judge people, you evil sadist."

I'd just like to take a moment to let you all know i posted this same exact story on the 28th. It didn't get no where near this amount of attention as jlew's thread.
    I'm seriously miffed!

    hehe. Just kidding :)

It looks like you are the one and only human being to be perfect. And you walked willingly into that one....Yep, you'll make a good lawyer... "not that I can recall"......

But at least you are "above" me, by being "honest" and not a "hypocrite".....

The irony of being a hypocrite about being a hypocrite. It's enough to let your hypocritical self-righteousness speak for itself.

not being a hypocrite doesn't make me perfect. just means i don't play passive-aggressive head games and preach acceptance while practicing judgmentalism in the same breath.

For you--or any human being for that matter--to pretend you can't recall an instance of acting hypocritical is ludicrous....especially when trying so desperately to pin the scarlet "h" on another for being hypocritical.

"I don't play headgames".......... yeah.....uh-huh.....You fell prey to the classic "I'm self-righteous" approach, when minimizing someone else for their so-called self-righteousness.

  • Hmm,

It seems to me angelica, that what you were really trying to say at the start of this thread is that we shouldn't mock Tom Cruise's idiotic beliefs any more than we should mock any other religious person's idiotic beliefs.

I agree. They're all equally idiotic.
It doesn't matter if you're male, female, or confused; black, white, brown, red, green, yellow; gay, lesbian; redneck cop, stoned; ugly; military style, doggy style; fat, rich or poor; vegetarian or cannibal; bum, hippie, virgin; famous or drunk-you're either an asshole or you're not!

  • So....

what's the moral of the story?
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

I almost had a baby with a woman who fancied Tom Cruise. I ran. Do what I did. That's the moral. ;)
