So them playing at coorporate named venues the past 17 years didn't bother you? Eddie playing a private show for the CEO of the Real Networks didn't bother you? Matt doing an ad for a drumstick didn't bother you? Pearl Jam doing VH1 Storytellers didn't bother you?

The thing that gets you though, is that they are reaching out to a communications company to get their music out to fans in a new and innovative way?

    Give me a break...

Please stop acting like spoiled children and focus on things like "Who You Are" being played for the first time in 12 years...

They only did that to sell more free digital downloads.

    Sellouts.

    I disagree. It's just a phone carrier. It's not like it's Haliburton.
Verizon is just as bad as Haliburton...huge monopolizing manipulating corporation.

Some do hold PJ (rightly or wrongly) to a higher standard..and this is partially due to the bands past messages....so to have PJ sponsored by Verizon does suck.

    Ed come on buddy....fk verizon.

On to them using Verizon for the phone music thing...well PJ Management was visited by a Verizon salesperson, marketing fk and sold them on it. Typical corporate crap.

Wonder if PJ hires marketing agency that holds focus groups.....

Honestly, why would anyone care? Start worrying about not having one quality presidential candidate. One that doesn't honor the pledge to the flag and is affiliated with a racist pastor and one who says our troops coming home "really isn't that important"

where does it say anywhere that PJ is sponsored by Verizon???

And how do you know that PJ management wasn't throwing around the idea of doing digital cell phone downloads and profiled the cell companies and decided that Verizon had the best infrastructure to deliver their idea?? And then THEY went to Verizon with the concept and idea??? It would follow along with the other bootleg and music distribution ideas that the band and management had previously come up with and used.

I am torn on this topic. On the one hand I would like to think they could have tons of sponsors and that would help keep the ticket prices lower (which was a huge source of complaint) and I would not care. Also, we all (at least 90%) have cell phones and we all use the internet so we are already supporting these communications corporations. If we were so against Verizon or Sprint our only choice would to write USPS letters or live near a Panera Bread so we could "Steal" their wireless internet. On the other hand, I also feel some sense of loss when driving through a beautiful mountain range and having to see bill boards and advertisement. I want things to be unspoiled by advertising. I want people and bands and companies to stand on their own merits.
I am a huge Chicago Bears fan. Well, Soldier Field is a "Historical Landmark" and therefore its naming rights are not for sale. It will always be known as Soldier Field, so the Bears are losing out on this source of revenue. They found a way around this by being "The Chicago Bears Presented by Chase Bank". Chase is the large sponsor of the Bears, and if this little detail causes the bears to keep ticket prices lower and to get better players and become a better team then I am fine with it. I actually bank at a Credit union.
So I think the point is, I am seeing PJ at the Verizon Center and if they were to ever do a "Verizon Tour" I would be fine with it and hope that it was done to keep ticket prices lower. Whoever supports/sponsors the Bears or PJ or Brad Pitt, really doesn't affect me.
There's no need to say goodbye

    1) This tour is not the "2008 Pearl Jam Tour-Sponsored by Verizon", it's just a tour. Until you see "Sponsored by Verizon" on your ticket stub, please don't keep your panties in a bunch.

    2) Someone give me one reason why a new innovative way to get music to fans is a terrible idea?

    3) Fans need to get over the thought that they know what the band stands for and what it doesn't. The band is still doing a great deal of charitable work, touring in parts of the country that they haven't in 5 years, and is about to go in and record a new album.

Eddie will not appear in a Verizon ad pimping smart phones. "Given To Fly" is not going to be heard on a American Airlines commercial, and "Small Town" is not going to be used by your local chamber of commerce. And if they were...who gives a shit. I like Pearl Jam for their music and social stances, but this is an age where artists have to think of new ways to sell their product. Albums don't do that anymore because you can get any album you want for free. Give them a break. Their profession is being a musical artist, and part of being a professional is getting paid for your work.

When you can explain to me how Verizon could be held responsible for the death of American soldiers, then we can talk.

If you're ignorant enough to believe any of those statements, I don't think even Ron Paul would want your fucking vote.
