and to address the whole "parents should teach there child" thing....
for the record, I agree....but sadly, sometimes the parent is the pedophile...so, yeah, I guess the parents can be blamed in such a case...
I guess it's a bad thing to have a safety net in place...0 -

I wonder where you parents were...
they were always there for me. taught me that no one should ever touch me and that I should always go to them if anyone ever did or said anything that made me uncomfortable.
where were yours?0 -

I'm not denying anyone anything, I just think that there is a line to what should be taught at school and at home. Does this cross the line? Not necessarily but spending a large chunk of classroom time teaching about things that could better be covered in small short information sessions with younger children is a waste IMO. As they get older and the issues are more complicated, devote more time.
In many cases child abuse is occuring in the home. They give teachers the right to bring weapons to school, but you're not willing to let a qualified person come to the school and talk to children about child abuse. By time a child gets older, the damage is done.SIN EATERS--We take the moral excrement we find in this equation and we bury it down deep inside of us so that the rest of our case can stay pure. That is the job. We are morally indefensible and absolutely necessary.0 -

there is absolutely nothing wrong with a safety net in place. but where do you draw the line when it comes to sexual education in public schools for 5 year olds?
I'm all for some type of constructive way to teach such young kids the dangers of life.
its a thin line to walk on though, no?0 -
spyguy wrote:thats horrible. where were your parents? you couldnt go to them? they never talked to you about such things?
sounds like a fault in parenting, not fault in public schooling.
Hey jerk....
I had great parents that (like you) probably thought they would save the sex talk for later years.
I didn't know what a hard-on was... To me it was just my uncle being goofy. I thought he was cool, and I loved spending the summers with my aunt, uncle and their kids.
I was raised in a crazy ass Baptist middle class family. We didn't discuss sex ever, because of religion that's why.the Minions0 -

no need for name calling. I was simply asking a question. I guess I was raised differently then you...and inmytree.0 -

It's not even that... as a foreigner I am appalled at this obsession with parents being the only point of reference in their kids' lives. When I was little my mom and dad were more than happy to let the nurses at school share with us what they are much more knowledgeable about. Beginning in elementary school. Sometimes these talk... people only get around to them when it's late, or they address these issues in a sloppy way. There are people in schools who have studied these things extensively, and the best way to communicate them to children according to their developmental stage. I don't understand what the big deal is. If it saves any woman from the tragedy of going through an abortion, I say the more the better. For some kids it will be redundant, for some it won't.... and the will to show I will always be better than before.0 -
If you can't see what you said was wrong, then i give up.spyguy wrote:where am I going wrong? please tell me.
if this had happened to me, I would go directly to my parents and tell them. wouldnt you?
When i was 7, i'd had the 'stranger danger talk', from my parents, and they had talked to me about people talking 'inappropriately to me or touching me where they shouldn't and things like that. Sure. But i can tell you that if someone mentioned things like 'hard on' to me or 'show us your pussy', i would've thought they were talking about a freaking pussy cat. How the hell would i know that was inappropriate talk? Now, do you get it a bit clearer now? You have no right to criticize stangest tribes parents. No right.0 -

sounds to me like "you guys" may like little girls too much....
We all know that you just like little boys so much and want a better experience with them, that's why you want them to be "educated".
Keep on keepin on with the bs comments...you crossed the line.hippiemom = goodness0 -

Where did I say I wouldn't let a qualified person talk to children about child abuse??? I said that a full classtime everyweek during the school year should't be allocated to sex education for young children. I see no problems with having monthly presentations about sexual issues to young children but not a permanent weekly class.
And where did I say I supported teachers having weapons in schools???This is your notice that there is a problem with your signature. Please remove it.

what line...?
clowns in the mchouse camp want to make it look like obama wants to teach 5 year old about fucking...which is bullshit...and when supporters get some push back...suddenly a line is crossed....
for the record...children should be kept safe...plan and simple...to me, giving a child some information that will keep them safe is a good thing, not a bad thing...
the true bs here came from the mchouse camp...of course, they get a free pass....0 -
It's difficult to discuss sex with your children. It's uncomfortable because they are naturally curious. So as a parent I found myself conflicted about what to say to my son because I knew he would repeat it and most likely he'd repeat it at school or to some other kid whose parents had kept them in the dark with the sex ed stuff.
I was always afraid that another parent or teacher would call angry about what I had been teaching my boy.
I would have welcomed some help. But sex is so stigmaed in this country it makes you paranoid about what is appropriate.the Minions0 -
Regardless of the differing positions on the issue, and it is certainly an issue on whether this is appropriate, can we all be non-partisan and agree that the way the McCain camp spun this is absolutely ludicrous?0

there are people you can reach out to for advice, parents, doctors, child psychiatrists, child abuse organizations, etc.....I agree its a touchy subject to talk about and very difficult to do correctly. as a parent, you should reach out for help and advice. just a thought.0 -

the child suffers for the parents not talking about such things. I completely agree.0
