I'm talking about post 90 where you finally figure out what the bill was about. Try to keep up, thanks.

what the bill is about is irrelevant. the discussion was/is about the where to draw the line for telling a 5 year old about sex. and also the role of parents vs public schooling.

come back when you have something constructive to say.
  • oh and btw, private schools appear to be more of a breeding ground for child molesters...
But that's a different subject for another thread

I apologize if I offended you, that wasnt my intention. this is a difficult subject to talk about. this is not a partisan issue for me. children need to be protected at all costs, I agree.

seriously, take my advice. there are people and organizations that will help you with this. its worth looking into if you are questioning your techniques.

It's ok we're just people on an anonymous bb that don't have faces to look at. Sometimes it's hard to put words down without scrutiny. Maybe at the end of the day we can say we learned something.

Thankfully, I'm years beyond the sex talk and my son hopefully will soon be married. I guess there's always grandchildren though.

    Oh man... Grandchildren....sigh

there are people you can reach out to for advice, parents, doctors, child psychiatrists, child abuse organizations, etc.....I agree its a touchy subject to talk about and very difficult to do correctly. as a parent, you should reach out for help and advice. just a thought.

And why should I not find that help and advice at my child's school?
... and the will to show I will always be better than before.

What I can't understand is how anyone can be outraged by child predators (as we as a society and as a message board seem to be) and then turn around and criticize an attempt to protect children. How can someone be so concerned with defeating Obama or with keeping people from having sex outside of marriage that they actively fight against the protection of children? We certainly have a fucked up society when any mention of anything regarding sex can be used against us.

For those who say it's up to the parents and not the place of the schools to teach such things: Why? We have no problem with schools teaching our children to protect themselves from fire, tooth decay, traffic, etc. Isn't teaching them to watch out for predators even more important? Is it okay to teach them to not get in the car with strangers, but not okay to teach them to not let strangers touch their private parts? This fucking puritanical attitude about sex and sex organs does nothing but hurt our children.

Additionally, have people forgotten that sex is part of biology & health? Should we ban those subjects entirely? The person who said yesterday that before you know it there will be a ban on "Everybody Poops" is right...

And did anyone notice that this bill didn't even say sex ed HAD to be taught at all? It just said if it's going to be taught it needs to be appropriate. No one's forcing any information on anyone's kids anyway; parents can always opt out. And who the hell said anything about spending a whole class period every week on the subject?

I swear, sometimes I don't know what the hell people are talking about. Rant over. :o

You really can't understand that? How difficult is it to understand that you agree that children should be protected, but you disagree with the method proposed.

For example, I could agree that I want someone to keep my grass mowed short, but disagree with their plan to fill it with fainting goats to do so.
The only people we should try to get even with...
    ...are those who've helped us.

Right 'round the corner could be bigger than ourselves.

Regardless of the differing positions on the issue, and it is certainly an issue on whether this is appropriate, can we all be non-partisan and agree that the way the McCain camp spun this is absolutely ludicrous?

While that's a very funny alalogy, what could possibily be wrong with professionals teaching children to protect themselves from predators and giving the parents an out if they don't want their kids in that part of the class? Why are we not outraged when the same methods are used to protect the same children from other things? The method is the same; it's only the subject matter that has changed - to a subject that our society can be excessively freaked out about, much to the detriment of our children.
