            CARS HISS BY MY WINDOW
The cars hiss by my window
Like the waves down on the beach
The cars hiss by my window
Like the waves down on the beach
I got this girl beside me
 But she's out of reach
 Headlight through my window
 Shinin' on the wall
 Headlight through my window
 Shinin' on the wall
 Can't hear my baby
 Though I called and called
 Yeah, right
 Woo!
 Windows started tremblin'
 With a sonic boom
 Windows started tremblin'
 With a sonic boom, boom
 A cold girl'll kill you
 In a darkened room
 Yeah, woo
 Ride
 Ride on
 Weooooo!
 Wawa, eooo!
 Oooo, owa, owaaa!
 Wa, waaaaea!
Ooo, wa, wa, wa, wa, waa!Sleep on horseback

I love this thread! I forgot how much I used to be into the Doors in my twenties. I lived between to bars in Somers Point NJ. I had bushy curly hair a fat goatie and I drank like a fish.

YES it's true Sathogwa! Isn't that awesome? You should totally visit it. My old P.E. teacher use to actually be Jim's too. He use to cut hair and do tats on the side...he cut Jim's hair. He continued to cut hair years down the line with the SAME scissors that cut the mighty man's hair. He also use to tell us stories about him. Pretty fuckin cool. Glad you appreciate the greatness of SOUL KITCHEN as well. Such a rockin song!!! You should totally visit it. Here's another fav.... no matter HOW many times I hear it... it never fails to take me away.
 *CRYSTAL SHIP*
 Before you slip into unconsciousness
I’d like to have another kiss
 Another flashing chance at bliss
 Another kiss, another kiss
The days are bright and filled with pain
Enclose me in your gentle rain
The time you ran was too insane
We’ll meet again, we’ll meet again
Oh tell me where your freedom lies
The streets are fields that never die
 Deliver me from reasons why
You’d rather cry, I’d rather fly
The crystal ship is being filled
A thousand girls, a thousand thrills
A million ways to spend your time
When we get back, I’ll drop a line
 *sigh*
HAIL HAIL the almighty, legedary DOORS! In a classic league all their own. They can't be compared to anything el
se. Music that will forever ROCK our lives !
 GMTA .... ....
 yes that's another goodie.....
I remember getting their boxset one year for xmas that was so cool....These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.0

            GHOST SONG
 "Awake.
 Shake dreams from your hair
My pretty child, my sweet one.
Choose the day and choose the sign of your day
 The day's divinity
 First thing you see.
A vast radiant beach, a cool jeweled moon
Couples naked race down by it's quiet side
And we laugh like soft, mad children
Smug in the wooly cotton brains of infancy
The music and voices are all around us.
Choose they croon the ancient ones
 The time has come again
 Choose now, they croon
 Beneath the moon
 Beside an ancient lake
 Enter again the sweet forest
 Enter the hot dream
 Come with us
Everything is broken up and dances.
Indians scattered on Dawn's Highway, bleeding
Ghosts crowd the young child's fragile, eggshell mind."
These words coupled with that tribal, jazzy, funky music makes me feel so fucking good, everytime I hear it. A real blessing.Sleep on horseback

*this is one of the few songs i don't have but wish i did. it almost makes me laugh when i hear it, it's fun to listen to. i nearly bought the doors box set the other day, but then i backed off. i have their 'best of' and i'm happy with it for now. if this song is on the doors soundtrack album, i have it on tape cassette somewhere.Another habit says it's in love with you
Another habit says its long overdue

According to ray manzarek, the movie was way off. He said that Jim wasn't this giant drunken bufoon who would shout poetry on top of cars and piss himmself all the time. The movie was entertaining, but i think that it exagerated the partying aspect of morrison."Tonight we're just gonna play you some good old American Rock and Roll." tom petty-7-15-050

Yeah, I've heard that too. Ray's book, "Light My Fire" is really good. I would recommend it. He talks about the movie, and slams Oliver Stone pretty hard.
I guess Stone's movie was based in part on John Densmore's book "Rider's on the Storm," where Jim is portrayed as a drunken madman. Ray's book sometimes appears to be at pains to present Jim in a more sane light.
My feeling is the truth is somewhere in the middle of these two depictions.Sleep on horseback

Yeah I was not too thrilled with the The Doors movie. They never showed the true side of Morrison. They tried to portray him as a drunk, sex machine. I recommend you guys read Danny Sugarman's books, I have a couple of books that he wrote about The Doors. They are really good. He knew Morrison and The Doors pretty well.Let me sleep all night in your soul kitchen....... Learn to forget....... fingers weive quick minarets speak in secret alphabet.0

Doors have to be in my top 4 favorite bands. It just too bad they were only around for 4 years. It's amazing they were able to make such an impact in that short of time.http://www.myspace.com/dgulley

 Runnin' Blues -
 Poor otis dead and gone
Left me here to sing his song
Pretty little girl with the red dress on
 Poor otis dead and gone
Yeah, back down, turn around slowly
 Try it again, remembering when
It was easy, try it again
 Much to easy, rememberin’ when
All right, look at my shoes
 Not quite the walkin’ blues
Don’t fight, too much to lose
 Can’t fight the runnin’ blues
Well, I’ve got the runnin’ blues
 Runnin’ away, back to l.a.
Got to find the dock of the bay
Maybe find it back in l.a.
 Runnin’ scared
 Runnin’ blue
 Goin’ so fast
 What’ll I do
Well, I’ve got the runnin’ blues
 Runnin’ away, back to l.a.
Got to find the dock of the bay
Maybe find it back in l.a.
All right, look at my shoes
 Not quite the walkin’ blues
Don’t fight, too much to lose
 Can’t fight the runnin’ blues
All right, look at my shoes
 Not quite the walkin’ blues
Don’t fight, too much to lose
 Can’t fight the runnin’ blues
 an AWESOME song!!!....~ ******************************** ********************************

Have to agree!iluvslash wrote:l like the doors, the only song i think they didn't cover so well was gloria!
Gloria was a mid 60's song, and they just did it as a hoot. "I'd rather be with an animal." "Those that can be trusted can change their mind." "The in between is mine." "If I don't lose control, explore and not explode, a preternatural other plane with the power to maintain." "Yeh this is living." "Life is what you make it."0 "I'd rather be with an animal." Also agree with Robby Krieger is an absolutely brilliant guitarist that could never get enough praise if you ask me. *bows down repeatedly* This band was and always will be SO fuckin incredible on infinite levels.
I've heard lots of mixed things about The Doors of the 21st century but I definitely wish I woulda seen them. Hopefully there will be another chance.

Sun is shinin' deep beneath the sea
But not enough for you and me and sunshine
Love to hear the wind cry

John densmore in my opinion is the most Underrated drummer of rock n roll.. listen to the doors and try to block out the drums. it cant be done.. he plays not just rythem but in many ways a lead instrument. amazing..I change by not changing at all.0

I like the dark carnival of their first two albums.0
