Thoughts?

I only heard it once last night before going to sleep, and agree the sound in the studio was prett bad. I am not going to judge it until I hear a cleaner version and can hear Ed's words. I did like the music from what I heard. I am looking forward to hearing an MP3 when I get home.

Of all the reactions here, i'm surprised to see zero comments about Jeffs base. Usually I cant hear him for shit, but I thought his base lines were sweet and right up in the front. That was a nice change.

I think it all sounded pretty good, I've been watching the youtube cut of it, didnt sound very good on the broadcast.

I thought the music was okay, but Ed definitely seemed to be struggling. The bad mix didn't help at all After listening to the mp3 a couple of times, its grown on me but I wouldn't call it a favorite quite yet. I do agree with your acquired taste comment though!

But seriously ... I could have predicted at this time yesterday ... 12 hours before the Conan performance aired ... that there would be people on this board the next day serving no other purpose than to shit all over everybody's buzz.

I could have even given you some names as to which posters would be the ones doing the shitting. You see them on various threads. They (apparently) are miserable pricks. And predictable miserable pricks at that. It's kind of sad actually.

If someone truly didn't like the song, cool. You can say that. It is America. But if a person is coming here just to shit all over everybody's buzz, he/she is just being a miserable prick.

Okay, I've listened a few times now. I think Matt's drumming was top-notch. It was as if he'd seen Dave A's YouTube channel and thought "Pfffffft." Jeff is obviously really into the song. Stone didn't look bored, which makes a feckin' change! Mikey mightn't have done much shredding, but he got that note in at the end that sung beautifully and said more than a solo.

I'll tell you what I think happened with Ed. The band had had a soundcheck, and the sound engineer had said, "Right, I have the levels sorted out." Sometime between the soundcheck and the performance, the levels had been altered and Ed was having to get up on tip-toes to belt out the song. Also, I'm wondering if the studio version is a little slower and they played a bit too fast for Ed to get all the syllables out in the groove to which he's accustomed? I'm thinking they were a little nervous, and there were a couple of minor glitches. However, all in all the performance was a triumph. The song sounds fine, direct, and pop-rocky. The band weren't 'phoning this one in. They were really rocking: maybe even a little too much!

I know the album version will be much better- especially with B.O.B. at the wheel with the production for the album.
I'm really excited to see where they take this new album soundwise and musically. EVERY pj album is unique and yes "Binaural took me 4 yrs to appreciate fully. Now if Pearl jam ever made an album like Chris Cornell's "scream" I'd be really worried. While I respect a bands decision to go in a different direction the pop dance club sound did not work for Chris. At least pearl jam has not done that yet.

anyone else think this song had the same style set up as Green Days new song? hooks repeated over and over multiple time? i dont know i liked it but just think that they are doing what every other band is doing right now

at the end of the day, just trying to publicize the band a bit more. 944 Magazine is not exactly a rock and roll magazine, but i was asked by the publisher to start blogging on there to expand the musical flavor on a daily basis. what better topic for today than my favorite band?

wasn't sure how i felt while watching the show, mainly due to sound quality, although it was clear the music on this was pretty nasty. watched again today, started growing on me, and now after hearing the mp3, i'm really enjoying this a lot. absurdly excited for new album

i thought it was great even though there were problems with the vocals not being loud enough.

i can just tell that the studio version is going to sound great, it almost sounds as if it could have been taken from the yield days

Why do you have a billion posts on the Pearl Jam message board? Do you like to be unhappy? Or, are you still holding out hope that Pearl Jam will miraculously make an album you like? I'm really just curious and I'm not trying to be smarty pants. I just find it interesting that you would be so dedicated to a group for such a long time, as they have caused you so much disappointment over such a long time.

For me, if I touch the hot stove and it burns my hand, then I'm not going to keep touching it for a decade. If I were you, I may consider joining a KOL message board or something and stay far away from The Porch. The Porch burns your feet apparently.

I'm only trying to help you overcome your "fears", or at least steer clear of them.

No attempt to shit on people's buzzes here. If they believed their own bullshit as much as you claim, my not liking it wouldn't bother them as much as they do. I thought the song sucked, I was incredibly disappointed, and the song sounded exactly like the direction I've been hoping for years that the band would abandon but which all signs indicate they are going to pursue until the end of days. So yeah, it made me pretty miserable to hear it. But this is the "thoughts" thread. If you want to go mutually masturbate your love of this song, there's another thread for that around here. But it's quite pathetic how you all feel the need to ascribe someone's dislike of a given PJ to some deeply rooted character flaw on the part of the one holding the opinion. I'll repeat that last word: OPINION.

I must have no musical taste whatsoever though soulsinging since I iked the song, and I love Comatose. Big Wave I could do without though....maybe there is hope for me after all.

It's true, they've released maybe one album's worth of strong new material over the last decade. So yeah, I AM a bit masochistic in that I keep coming back hoping to hear something that reaches me the way they used to and other bands still do. And that early stuff still DOES mean a lot to me.

As to why I still kick around here: 1) good tips in the other music sections 2) addicted to the political debate in the Moving Train. But fear not, I won't be here forever. I intend to let my membership expire next time around.
