can you blame us? this is the most divisive issue in America....and an issue that people will never ever never ompletely agree on.
what about prop 8? ... what about climate change? ... what about the middle east? ... these are all contentious issues in the US where the sides of this discussion continue to divide americans ...

it's very true...and more than simply interesting.
i've oftentimes thought perhaps we've almost grown too *big*....and too *diverse*.......is that possible? i like to think of our diversity, and acceptance of it, as 100% a GOOD thing, and i truly think it is. i also like to think that these 5o 'united' states.....also a good thing, a great idea.....but man, we are so BIG.....and we are filled with so many people with vastly divergent opinions....how do we EVER get a governement to truly represent the will of the people when the people overall DO seem so divided in many ways? i'd like to think all our forward progress in so many ways would actually lead to a lot of good in our country and the world. and, i have no idea how to change any of it.....just agreeing, yea......we ARE very divided in oh so many ways.....

but not as much as abortion. which is my point. secondly, there is barely any divide on climate change or the middle east. I'll give ya the gay marriage divide however.

i would say there is no consensus on any of those issues ... most people are either pro-israel or pro-palestinian, either believe in climate change or don't and are pro-choice or pro-life ... i could add creationists vs evolutionists ... all these topics tend to be avoided as they often get confrontational in social settings ...
as for your prior post - i believe that this divide comes from 2 main things: 1. the PR / propaganda machine that is highly effective by special interests groups and 2. a mainstream media base that are owned by large multi-nationals who have not only business interests but are not willing to potentially offend a consumer base.
and you honestly believe all these women were in imminent danger of dying? I dont know, even so, I have a hard time letting a doctor suck out a crying baby with a vacuum.
A. Dr. Tiller has been the primary focus of the anti-abortion movement for many years. They have done everything to try to prove that he was breaking the law and, after each investigation, it has been found that he wasn't.
B. Babies don't cry when they are aborted and, at the gestational age to which you are referring, they don't use a vacuum. You don't know what you're talking about.

I have to wonder why people don't seem to get upset with the mother to be wanting to get that late term abortion. Without her wanting to have this late abortion this all wouldn't be an issue.
Peace
I have to wonder why people don't seem to ask why (or if) women "want" to have late-term abortions.
No woman wants to have late-term abortion. Although we haven't exactly defined "late-term" for the purpose of this converstation, those women who wait until the fetus is viable to get an abortion are not aborting unwanted children. A woman who decides to carry her baby nearly to term WANTS the baby. But sometimes abortions become necessary for health reasons. It's a terrible, heartbreaking decision to have to make, and can be harder than losing a child. We should feel nothing but compassion for these women.

Induced labor: Medication is administered to the pregnant woman which triggers labor. The woman eventually gives birth to the partly developed fetus.
bullet
"D&E" (dilation and evacuation). The physician inserts a long toothed clamp through the woman's vagina into the uterus. She/he grabs body parts of the fetus at random, breaks them from the body and pulls them out. Finally, the head is crushed and extracted. Finally, the placenta and any remaining parts of the fetus are suctioned from the uterus. 1
bullet
"D&X" (dilation and extraction) The woman's cervix is dilated. If necessary, the fetus is rotated until it is facing feet downwards. The surgeon reaches into the uterus and pulls the fetus' body, with the exception of its head, out of the woman's body. Surgical scissors are inserted into the base of the fetal skull, and withdrawn. A suction tube is inserted and the fetus' brains are removed through aspiration. This partially collapses the fetal skull. The fetus is then fully removed from the woman's body.

of course....however, most of the first nations in the world have this same ability to speak out, so yes...it would be nice if we could do even more than simply say we can speak out. so can many others. simply pointing out other countries that can't, doesn't make us a better country....and it certainly doesn't help to unify us in making governmental decisions of what we truly do WANT, as a country.....and that was my only point.

I'm sure I've known more women than you have who have had late-term abortions. I'm sure I've helped more women than you have through this decision-making process. I'm sure I've seen more women than you have sob after having made the decision and want nothing more than to have their baby - who they have already named and planned for - alive to hold in their arms.
Have I ever had a late-term abortion? No. Have I met every single woman who ever has? Of course not. But since they are not here to speak for themselves, I feel obligated to speak for them.
Truthfully, I'm pissed as fuck right now about what happened and I don't have any patience for a man talking out of his ass on a message board. Sorry if I'm taking that out on you, but I'm trying to be as civil as possible.
Who's rejoicing, as far as we know this guy could have shot him for something else. Highly unlikely but you never know. Most Pro lifers are exactly what they stand for. Life. and they don't condone what happened to him,but of course pro choice groups won't see it that way and the media won't let us see it that way
Why should they? You don't see Islam for its individuals, only that it promotes violent extremism.

Dilation and evacuation -- which uses suction and forceps to remove fetal tissue from the uterus and, in the process, breaks up the fetus -- is not banned by the law, but physicians sometimes begin the procedure and end up performing an intact dilation and extraction, the Times reports. "If you intend to do a standard [dilation and evacuation] and then find that you have to do a procedure that the law bans, then, as I understand it, you are not breaking the law," Eleanor Drey, an ob-gyn and medical director of the Women's Options Clinic at the University of California-San Francisco, said.

I don't think you know what she does for a living dude. Acting like she doesn't know what she's talking about on this issue is pretty foolish.
I dont care what she dos for a living. she is claiming to know the reasons for all women who get late term abortions. thats impossible.
She is claiming that all of the late term abortions performed by this doctor were under specific, necessary medical circumstances that passed legal muster and intense scrutiny in one of the most conservative states in the country. And her argument is a helluva lot more persuasive than your implication that he was running around vacuuming out babies for women that decided last second that they just didn't want a kid. You're smart enough to know you're spewing totally unfounded emotional bullshit here.
I dont care what she dos for a living. she is claiming to know the reasons for all women who get late term abortions. thats impossible.
just an FYI - THAt is your inference, and not what scb has posted.
obviously, she is speaking oftentimes in general terms. there is no *one* reason for ANY choice one may make, whether for abortion or anything else.
funny tho......you question scb's tactics and rationale for what you think she 'claims' as fact and that it is impossible.....yet you have no qualms at all about stating that taxes WILL get raised with a UHC model, higher costs overall, lower quality of care...period. odd that you can do that and it not be impossible.
back on topic - the fact remains what this doctor did for a living was/is absolutely 100% LEGAL in this country. he did NOTHING wrong. period. there is NO denying that FACT. whether you think the laws are right aor not are irrelevant to the degree that what this doctor, this professional, did in service to the medical community was legal, and therefore for him to be targeted, and murdered...is completely unjustified and wrong. no matter how you look at it, he was murdered in cold blood, no matter the possible 'motivation' or not. NOTHING can justify that.

Whatever, dude.
It's not impossible when the reasons are limited by law and the doctor in question has been proven to work within the law.
