i think i may have mentioned this to whoprincess as a suggestion...

lots of people bring flags to hold a spot & so others in that group can always find their group. maybe we could bring a flag...and take shifts staying with the flag so we could all be close for PJ. as the day progresses, we could move closer & closer with all of us meeting up during the Dead Weather. it's going to be awfully hard to get close once they (Dead Weather) start their set. it's just a thought....but it gets packed really fast in front of the headliner stages. it's just a thought to make it easier for all of us to navigate. what do you guys think?

im in. i may have to ditch my travelling party but i never get to see pj close. except festivels.
all i remember is that it was a fight for people to try and get back to their group. i was right at the pit wall for bonnaroo and never left my spot. just saw people getting boxed out and elbowed and bitched at for coming at the last minute..

My plan is to get there when Clutch hits the stage and stay there all day until PJ comes out on stage. Upfront of course. :)

i remember when we saw Bjork a couple of years ago @ ACL. it felt like there was a wall of people pushing us in the hour or 2 before her set started. it may be easier to hold our spot if there's more of us. we'd be willing to hold the flag for a good chunk of the day.

that's pretty much what we thinking as well. it sucks, though. going to have to miss a lot of the bands that we wanted to see. but, Pj hasn't been here in years & we aren't able to make any other shows on this tour. plus, i haven't seen them since the Riot Act tour & my wife has never seen them. can't wait!

What we do each day is get there early and "make camp" in a shady spot near the stage where we expect to spend most of our time. We set up collapsible chairs and blankets and then we all sort of go our separate ways throughout the day. There's always at least one person hanging out at the camp to watch the stuff.

Sunday is a little different. We make camp near the headliner stage but we start to move a few hours before they play. You can figure out when to move by what the rest of the crowd is doing. I've posted this before, but it's kind of hard to keep this in mind right now: Even though all of us are really pumped about seeing PJ, a lot of people are going to leave before they even take the stage. Many people skip the Sunday headliner. They aren't interested, they want to miss the traffic, they have to work the next day, they're going out of town, blah blah woof woof. Some people will listen to a few songs, then leave.

When PJ comes on and the crowd has thinned somewhat it will be a little easier to move up, although I think finding a good spot early on would be smart. But you can't set up chairs within a certain distance of the stage and that's going to be the tough part. It will still be hot in early October and that's a long time to sit in the sun.

The rumor here locally is now Tool and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs will be added to replace the Beastie Boys. Still just a rumor though.

    I can't imagine that.

Well, I am all set with Pearl Jam for awhile. 2 in Chicago, ACL and 2 in Philly.

Now watch them announce a show in Dallas in October.

I've made that drive a few times. My husband's brother and his family live in Benton Harbor, Michigan--right across the lake from you.

Um, what can I say, there's not much to see. (The Arch in St. Louis? ) You just have to find ways to make it interesting, which ain't easy.

We've driven on I-35 (booorrrrinnng) and once we had a route planned out for us on state highways by AAA that was a little more pleasant. On that trip we stopped in New Madrid, MO (site of the largest earthquake to ever strike the U.S.) and visited the tiny museum.

Either way, you're going to drive through a LOT of farmland. Better bring a lot of boots to listen to!
