Those are definitely neck and neck for 1 and 2. I think the energy of 03 is what gives it the edge imo. Havin the vid doesnt hurt I'm sure. They are pretty similar as far as the setlist goes.
Chicago 03 is the weakest of the shows I've been to but I did witness Arc>Ed was pretty sick or I'm sure it woulda been another Chitown classic
St Lou 03 has a really interesting laid back setlist>
St Lou 04 was amazing b/c of the venue and they busted out some songs they may never play again>> Alone, Seeker
Boston 08 was awesome as well, probably the best setlist I've seen>> half the songs were first timers for me and we got Wash and Bee Girl>Who You Are was the shit
Just finished up Detroit1 2003 this morning. It sounds better over time. I rank this as my least favorite show, not bad at all, just not as great as the other ones. I'm glad the band was pissed at the venue so I could see Detroit2 for free on the hill. Thanks again 10c!!!
I just finished Detroit2 2003 and what a great show. That was my second and last show on a hill. I never would have been there without the free tickets and I took my at the time 13 year old brother-in-law with me. He was hooked!!! That show just had a ton of energy and was a real blast.
Well I took the day off of boots yesterday and probably won't pop in Grand Rapids 2004 until I'm on my way to work on Tuesday. Everybody enjoy your long weekend!!!
So has anyone ever heard the legendary instrumental pieced of PJ playing the The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald? I've heard it's out there, but have never been lucky enough to hear it.
What a dump the Delta Plex turned out to be. That was the one and only time I've ever been there. However, the show was very, very good! I got to meet Tim Robbins in the hall and I heard a ton of songs I've only heard once. This was just a sneak peak at how special Grand Rapids could be for a Pearl Jam show.
There are a variety of reasons I would like to hear it covered.
1. I've always been a fan of the song. My Michigan History teacher played the song for my class in the 7th grade and I've loved the song ever since. Once I got hooked on PJ, it just sounded like a song that was meant for them to cover. Now that is my opinion and not fact, but I think it would be cool to hear what all the guys could bring to the table on this song.
2. There is a rumored bootleg that has PJ playing this song as an instrumental. I've never heard it for myself, but have watched the legend grow since the 90's.
3. I requested this in a similar thread in 2006 and came close to pulling it off. I at least got Ed to introduce Daughter as TWOTEF.
I don't know why it took me so long, but I broke down and finally downloaded Into The Wild from itunes. I'm anxious to give it it's first listen on the way to work today.

That is only a rumor based on a possibly mis-titled instrumental demo (I say possibly because for all I know Stone actually called it by the same title). Every time I've seen it it's been titled "The Wreak of Edmund Fitzgerald" like on the "From Then 'Til Now" boot. The music, while completely new, bares only a passing similarity to the original song in its strumming pattern. That's it. For the record the "PJ" song that you are referencing is not a cover of the original by Lightfoot. It was an instrumental demo most likely cut around the same time as "7Up", "Dollar Short", "Richard's E", "The King", "Doobie E", and the like.
Saying "Wreak" instead of "Wreck" may be a typo if this was the actual title given to it, but I think there's a strong possibility that it was a tongue in cheek way of naming the song in rough form because again, musically, it passingly references the Lightfoot song.

I was at Grand Rapids and it seemed to me that Ed was making a joke about it. They can only play so many songs in a night. I think I would be disappointed if this was one of them. Sorry

Getting closer and closer to the EV tour. Can't wait to start reading the set lists again. One of these days I can catch that tour too. I tried for Chicago last year, but didn't get lucky. Feel free to sound check the EF to perfect it for the Windy City Night 1.
I'll be following the Great Lakes next weekend as I leave Michigan, drive through Ohio, and arrive in Pittsburgh for a couple of Tigers/Pirates games at PNC Park. Found out Ed was at Philly the day before our trip, but really couldn't add the extra day. At least we will have Chicago Night 1!!!
