The festival starts @ like 5pm on Friday right? I was looking @ a schedule for last year and they only had a few bands play Friday, looks like Pearl Jam would play like a 7-9 or 8-10 (thats what last years Friday headliner looked like)...do you guys and gals all have hotels hooked up yet? Im going out with my fiance, would love some hotel info
I found a hotel that's close enough to walk and has free parking. http://oceanviewmotelsf.com/ It actually got decent reviews on Trip Advisor. Plus it's only $85 a night. It's across the street from Ocean Beach. I'm planning on relaxing at the beach for a few hours before walking to the show. I booked it as soon as the show was announced. There's almost no hotels near Golden Gate Park. Last year the few hotels near the venue were booked solid by early June. You could always stay near Union Sqaure but you'll have to take buses and pay ridiculous parking rates at the hotel. It's not the best show for out of towners. The logists are kind of a mess. You could also stay out of town and take BART into the city but that's a headache as well. Especially after the show when you'll be fighting 50,000 other fans for a bus.
Just so you know, this is a bit of a hike to the festival. Your best bet is to take the N-Judah train from 48th Ave to a stop at 32nd or 33rd ave (if memory serves me correctly). There is a festival entrance on the south side of the park that's two blocks up from Judah Street. You could walk it from where you're staying, but I'd guess it's about a mile, and then, it's not a straight shot into the park, so, plan accordingly.
Good news, your trains will be going in the opposite direction of the majority of the festival going traffic.
Is the entrance to the festival on 25th? I'm trying to map this out in my head. I don't mind walking to the show, it's walking back that might be a little more difficult. The hotel is right on the MUNI line so maybe I'll hop a train and get back that way. Like you said most people will be headed the other direction. Hopefully a few other fans stay at the Oceanview as well. It would be cool to have a little get together at Ocean Beach before the show. There's a couple of good corner cafe's in that neighborhood as well. I can't remember the names but I had a great sandwich at one of them a few years ago.

It's a bit confusing as entrances to the park don't line up with entrances to the festival. And the festival maps don't really show you the streets outside the festival ... so, if you go down to 25th Ave you're going to have to walk a long way BACK to get to the main stage.
Here's the festival map ... you can make out the green diamonds that say "EN", those are the entrances ... I've made them blue dots on the second map.
here's one I quickly overlaid with the actual streets involved ... the red dot is where you're staying.

Thanks for that festival map. Is there a place to print this out or is it a scan? It's the first time I've seen it. I'm thinking my best option is to take Lincoln to Sunset and then hit that entrance. Or MLK to Middle. Either way it's a lot shorter than walking all the way to 25th. Thanks for the info!

I just went to google, typed in "Outside lands Festival Map" hit images and ... presto ...
also i thought bands had to agree not to play close to festival site a couple weeks before and after, does anyone know about that?
Depends on the festival and promoter. Even when they do make this is a rule, it's usually something along the lines of a show close to the festival site cannot be ANNOUNCED until a certain point before the festival; the obvious reason for this is that promoters don't want fans buying tickets for a local show at the expense of not buying tickets for the festival.
That being said, Santa Barbara is not anywhere close to San Francisco, so playing Outside Lands wouldn't affect a potential SB Bowl show at all.
Although I'm rather hoping for a show somewhere in Southern California...perhaps at the Hollywood Bowl or the Greek Theater?

Well you have to think they are going to play a few new ones and than the greatset hits...they are only going to have about 2 hours, and Im only going by all of the headliners last year playing 2 hour set...I hope that Eddie does a solo show too
Does anybody know what's up with the start times this year? Last year the Friday show was shorter than the other days. The gates opened at 3:00pm for the Friday show. But this year the schedule has the gates opening at 11:00am for Friday. So perhaps Friday is a full day now? It would make sense since last year they charged the same for each single day ticket. It's hardly fair to pay full price for half the music. Perhaps they got a clue and changed things this year.
Do folks think it will be a greatest hits show(like Lolla) or more of a "anything goes" night (like 'Roo)?
I'm thinking this will be more like Roo, they know they can do whatever they want. But either way, so badass
I'm thinking it's a mix of the old (with he TEN re-release) and the new (one or two new tunes from the upcoming album) along with a bunch of standards.
On a side note, I just got an email that my tickets have been printed ... guess they are normal ticket master tickets this year .... last year, they were these huge commemerative tickets that had to be shipped via FedEx.

EAGER BEAVER TICKETS ALMOST GONE!
Now is your last chance to buy Eager Beaver 3-Day Tickets to Outside Lands for $199.50 before the price increases to the Advance 3-Day Ticket of $225.50. It looks like the Eager Beaver will be sold out sometime tomorrow afternoon so get them before you are pinched out.
Now, they don't mention one day tickets, which, I assume are coming ... but, jsut want to post this for those that know they are going for all three days.

Hi all....Newbie to the boards. Thinking about making the trek to SF for the festival (really - who needs a reason to get out of Phoenix in August...) I've got a couple of hotel questions. Anybody know anything about either of these: Stanyan Park Hotel or the Seal Rock Inn? Debating between the two. In a perfect world I'd rather stay on the west side, but seeing as how I'm coercing my wife to come along - don't know that I can afford getting a hotel that is kind of not too good. Thanks!
Also - its my understanding that since they're shortening Sunday they're going to make Friday a longer day.

Thank you - and I really hesitate to say this but I found Pearl Jam through DMB. I know that's going to piss alot of people off...but c'est la vie. Anyway - been playing the Ten vinyl over and over at home - driving my wife nuts...along with the Gorge CD's in the car... Really planning on making this trip happen. We both love SF (actually going there over the 4th of July too). So jobs holding steady - we'll make it!

The Outside Lands fest should be perfect for you since you also like DMB.

I'm staying at the stanyan park, i've never stayed there before but it looks close enough to walk to the festival, which is all i wanted. i know some people on here are also staying at the oceanview motel. good luck and welcome to the board!
Think this tweet is going to involve any CA shows before Outside Lands?
That would be perfect if I could travel out and hit up a couple extra shows...

I think the tweet is going to be toronto and chicago ... both, just plain ol' shows at big venues.
everything else is just Oliver Stone like conspiracy theory talk.

now now ... the question was about the "TWEET", and for that I was correct, it was only for Chicago and Toronto.
It was only later, separately, that the note about the West Coast came out.
Now ....... the only conspiracy theory I like to fuel is the 10c only show at the Fillmore some time around OLF ...
