Does anyone have proof that Ed is deciding on the pricing of the shows?

please don't say things like ed might not have a say in the pricing. then if has any balls at all he wouldn't play if he cared about that. he could have said "the tickets need to be $10 or less" if the venue didn't agree then they didn't need to have a show there. so yea, ed's making some $$. i agree with the post about integrity. there has to be a line drawn somewhere right? i mean they play huge corporate venues so my comparison to fugazi is null. but still don't talk the talk then do this. it's not just this tour, it's been happening for years, just slowly. ugh.

I thought this price seemed higher than last time so I looked in my profile for past purchases:

    BERKELEY 4/7/08 EV APRIL FOOLS TOUR TICKET PAIR 1 0 0 $141.50 $141.50
    Sub-Total $141.50
    Shipping $0.00
    Tax $0.00
    Grand Total $141.50

So not MUCH higher but someone asked why Ed couldn't shave $10 off--looks like he added it on!

I'm not complaining, as I don't have any interest in going to the Ed shows this time around (the shows ARE amazing and well worth it if you haven't seen them before though). Just saying...

Well all I can say is that I have Eddie to thank for saving me $166 because there are no Florida shows.....

Yeah, since PJ or Ed doesn't ever play Phoenix I'm lucky I'm not tempted to spend that ridiculous amount of money.

I've ALWAYS defending PJ and their "increased" ticket prices in the last few tours (back to '00), but this is out of control!

I kinda hope nobody shows up...but I know that won't happen.

I paid 80 something to see him last year, getting a ticket at the last minute and it's worth it. This year I'm skipping out entirely, at least I am now. If my financial situation improves by the time people start having extras, then maybe, but for now I'm out. Enjoy the shows.

Welcome to 2009! it aint 1992 any more people!
quit you whinging and be thankful that you dont have to fight with the ticket bastard crowd for these!

i saw the who last week and 1 ticket cost me $140US on current exchange, 1 TICKET!

3 years ago when Pearl Jam toured australia, it cost todays $160 US per pair in todays exchange rates... 3 years ago!

ticket prices in the US are not as bad as you all make them out to be!

all of you should take a chill pill and be thankful you have the chance to buy tickets, unlike me, and even have shows there at the moment!

if you don't like the price, dont go!

I think it's more than that, there's other costs involved like getting to the shows, hotels, etc. For me, I'm starting a new job and I'm not sure if I can take the time off to go to the nearest show. Plus, I'm more interested in seeing the entire band, not that Eddie's solo shows aren't good, it's just my personal preference in terms of traveling out of town.

    Youch! Exactly!

    March)
We should all help an out of work artist. Support the lower paid tier of America. Do what you can to support this talented artist. Go out there and donate what you can in the name of art.

    April)
Announce tour in a riddled American economic climate. Still charge over 80$ per ticket to support E in venues where most artists don't charge beyond the 40$ point.

    Summer)
Announce full-scale Pearl Jam tour with some fesitvals. Make more money.

    Fall)
Release new album. Make some money.

    2010)
    Take the year off.

Not a bad plan I'd do it if you suckers would pay too.

Same here... and I think it speaks volumes that this thread has remained much more civilised than it normally would... where's the usual people saying Ed's God and can charge what he likes?

Ya know, even if he'd dropped the prices by $10 and made a statement saying it was cos of the recession, I think I would have been quite pleased... but to ignore it and put the prices up

And many people DIDN'T pay $120 for the reissue of Ten either.

'UNFORTUNATELY' though I think the shows will sell out and Ed will be oblivious to it all... I know we're a hard bunch to please but have some common sense! I also know Ed's not a charity but all this talk about the fans coming first... just seemed like something simple they could do for the fans.

  • For now the prices are reasonable, but they keep jacking them up with every subsequent tour. I mean come on, have a few rounds at one price and then consider raising them a little bit. In a couple of years it's gonna be well over 200 for a pair at this rate.
  • PearlJamaholicPearlJamaholic Posts: 2,019
im not interested in going solely because ticket prices. screw vedder. $80+ for a small venue. like they have to pay just as much or more to borrow a small venue for a night compared to a larger one. most bands play tower theater at maybe $45 tops....i remember when this guy talked about unfair ticket prices to fans. i guess its all ok as long as he is getting the money and not ticketmaster.

But unless the tickets are free there will always be someone who can't afford to go. Concert tickets are a luxury, seeing a world famous artist in a very small venue is a huge luxury (its not like we are talking about the price for a loaf of bread here). Complaining about the price of a pair of tickets being too high is like complaining about the price of a Bentley being too high.

I was sitting near the aisle at the EV show I went to and the security guard was all over me when I tried to take a pic with my cell phone. They're serious.
  • I don't post much but in reading this thread I had a thought.

Does everyone think that all of this money goes directly into Ed's pocket?

In addition to things that have been mentioned (crew, gas, venue, etc.) it should be noted that Pearl Jam does not have a record label at this point. They are recording and releasing a new album on their own. Perhaps these shows are a way to generate money to fund that project. Although these are Ed Vedder solo shows I think it is a fairly safe assumption that a lot of this money will go back into Pearl Jam Inc and pay for recording costs, distribution, advertising, etc.

Just a thought. It's not uncommon.

    whatever
an ev show in a small venue is well worth $100 a ticket imho
same with PJ in any venue

and who the heck knows why its that much, maybe its all those carbon credits he needs to buy to offset the tour bus and the electrical costs of putting on a show

plus when you go see that $35 show, your lucky to get a 90 min set
EV plays his heart out for 2+ hrs.
    priceless
    imho

for people who don't make a lot of money (and there are a lot out there nowadays), this is definitely an expensive price for tickets...

you can say people are complainers, but for someone like me who'd love to go to these shows, the prices are just something I simply can't afford and wish would change to reflect the current economic state and people's dwindling incomes...

I dont mean this to sound rude, but if your situation is that dire, a rock concert shoud not be a priority. It really is a "luxury" item, and I felt lucky to even have the chance to see Ed in Chicago on the last tour.

If your finances are such that this will make or break you, then the choice is obvious.
