This Dave A thing has always been a little bit strange. I feel sorry for the guy; he seemed like a decent fellow, and was a pretty decent drummer. Obviously there's a hell of alot more to this story than any of us know. I've heard that didn't get on very well with Eddie or Jeff, and wasn't as diverse a drummer as they'd like...blah blah.
On one hand It's cool that he's posting these rare videos for us diehards to drool over, but at the same time it's kind of sad and somewhat pathetic to think of him attempting to draw attention to himself in this manner.
Obviously, he's not making a buck off of the band by posting this shit, but at the same time, it's kind of convenient that this stuff gets dropped off to You Tube just as Peal Jam is in the process of re-issuing their back catalog.
Dave was credited on the Drop in the Park vinyl, and MTV Unplugged show...but as someone else pointed noticeably abscent from the cover of the Unplugged DVD.
It will be very interesting when the re-issues of Vs. and Vitalogy come out to see how much credit Dave A get's for his drumming on those albums. I'd love to hear what Eddie and Jeff have to say about Dave's drumming years later. It was cool that they gave Krusen props in recent interviews. Perhaps they will do the same with Dave.
Personally, I expect the band to take the high road in this regard, but again...who knows what went on. Who knows what kind of resentment there still is between Eddie, Jeff, and Dave A...who really cares.
Dave was a good drummer, but he wasn't fit for the band on a personally or professional level. The band probably wouldn't have lasted had Dave kept his job. I know alot of you hold him in high regard, but the band wouldn't be the same with him. Their much better without him.
Dave A's career never seemed re-bound (commerically) after his exit from Pearl Jam. If he as good as most people hold him to be, where the hell is he now? what has he done of any relevance since?
This whole You Tube thing lis pretty embarassing if you want to know the truth.
It looks like an electronic resume of an out of work has been drummer; Both badly in need of work, and obviously starved for attention.
If he as good as most people hold him to be, where the hell is he now? what has he done of any relevance since?
I'd say his Green Romance Orchestra stuff has probably gotten somewhat equal attention, as any of the other PJ side projects, except for EV's solo stuff. When I saw Three Fish with Jeff play years ago, it was basically in a bar.

First, why isnt it possible that he heard about the re-release, got nostaligic, and decided to share some of his favorite moments on youtube? I dont assume that it's because he is starved for attention.
Second, it's not about being the best technical drummer, it's about being the right fit for the band. both Dave and Jack were much better fits for PJ, IMO, than Matt is. yes, Matt can play fast, but he plays the slow songs, like Black, Small Town, Indifference, way too heavy. The drums should barely be heard on Indifference.
I still hope Soundgarden reunites (which would be awesome in and of itself) and Jack comes back to PJ, but if we could take personality conflicts out of it, I would love to see Dave behind the kit again as well.
I loved PJ back in those days as much as I do now.. Maybe then I needed them more as I was younger, more angry and confused and needed an outlet that they helped provide. Dave A was an integral part of that. I don't know why people/fans feel the need to compare each drummer in the sense that one was better than the others etc etc.. they are all different. Can you imagine what music would be like if a musician's style could be flawlessly replicated? Boring. Die-cast music. Forget it. It's style that draws us in, and unless you hit the PJ scene after Dave A's stint in the band, then his style worked for you in that era of PJ's music. I would hope that whatever happened back in the day between members of the band, that everyone has grown enough emotionally to accept that we're all human and flawed and to be forgiving of eachother.. If I was Dave and had those great memories archived, I'd want to share them with the fans, and yeah, reach out and get a little attention. I'm not sure why anyone should assume he doesn't deserve it.

Can you imagine if Keith Moon was a young fella in the band, circa 1991-4? I can picture the scene now: Ed's in the hotel lobby giving a very serious political press conference with Angela Davis, John Sinclair and the Weather Underground about demanding equal union pay rights for one-legged midget limbo dancers in the Easter Islands, and suddenly there's this huge "Kabooooooooooooooooom" from the toilets overhead. The ceiling caves in!!! And "Thwap!!!!" Keith lands through the air onto the conference table, covered in dust and clutching some lead piping, a bottle of creme de menthe and a zippo lighter. He'd be having breakfast with Stone in the morning. "Sorry, Keith, it's about approaches, ya know. Philosophy. You're just er, ya know, a bit rock and roll ..."
Dave A's career never seemed re-bound (commerically) after his exit from Pearl Jam.
Everyone can't be Dave Grohl. I don't see Mike, Jeff, Stone or Matt making it comercially again if they left PJ, not with help from others. The only one who could survive on his own is Eddie.
So I don't think it takes away from Dave that he didn't start up Foo Fighters 2 after his departure from PJ.
And PJ would be dead with him behind the drums? What? I don't feel the druming on VS or Vitalogy was bad in ANY way.

Matt would do fine. Even now other bands seek his help quite often.
I'm also pretty sure that any band seeking a drummer would have Matt near the top of their list (if PJ was no longer around).
Mike...maybe but doubt it.
Stone could land somewhere pretty easily I think, I'm just not sure if he'd do it.

I liked Dave's comment that he made on someone's Indio 93 vid
thats my video :P
Wheres the vid that Dave commented on?
its the indio evenflow vid. someone basically was saying dave a was awesome and that matt sucks. Dave just said something like "don't slag on Matt, but yes, we were a great rock band."
edit:
ok, here is what "person x" said:
Abbruzzese IS God. I love how he took Dave Krusens sound from the Ten album, and rocked the hell out of it. Without a doubt, one of the most underated drummers of all time, and one of my biggest influences. They canned his ass because he wasn't clicking with the guys personally. They wanted to go out, and save the world...he just wanted to play good music. Matt Cameron can't hold a candle to this shit.
dave responded with this:
Amen. ...Very well said. No slack to Matt. This is was a great rock band.
i like the "this IS WAS" a great band part...guess he still loves PJ!
Cool, I always liked Dave's drumming the best over everyone else. Jack Irons second, then Matt C. Cameron that is.

This is one way you can see it but the other is that there are a lot of Dave fans out there who hammer him with requests for more stuff over the years (i`m one of them). I see it as just responding to the huge amount of fans he still has. Thanks Dave!
i think its cool he's doing thi but why now when the ten reissue came out and when pearl jam is back in the spotlight. just seems like he wants attention. why couldnt he have done this a few years ago or last year or something if dave a fans wanted this stuff released. dave a was a good drummer for the band during that time period.

nicely said, although i still prefer dave a and jack to matt
but i think (hope) the band is getting over some of that old BS. a recent interviewer asked stone what his favorite PJ song was, and he said nothingman, mentioning how much he loved dave's drumming. I think they have moved on and can appreciate dave and the time for what it was, and I hope we as fans can do the same.
it's ALWAYS great seeing Stone's dancing in the early days!

I miss Dave but the band reached a boiling point and something had to give, it's unfortunate but he had to go. Ed was fucked from all the attention and becoming more reclusive. Communication amongst the band broke down badly to the point where they barely spoke to each other.
I remember watching the SNL show after Kurt died and how uncertain and angry all of the guys except Dave appeared. Dave was having fun rocking the fuck out with a big smile on his face enjoying himself, he seemed out of place. I'm sure this urked Ed increasingly, which is unfortunate.
Ed wanted to pull back and i think Stone and Jeff understood, Mike wasn't happy about it but knew it had to be done to save Ed's sanity. Dave on the other hand wanted things to blow up bigger and didn't see what the big deal was and that was the deciding factor most of us assume.
Jack Irons was the saving grace as every band member has stated on numerous occasions. He forced all of the guys to start talking and work out their differances and they became better musicians and friends because of it.
Out of all the drummers i feel Dave had the most passion and played with the highest level of intensity every single night. When things starting getting volatile he seemed to played like every night could be his last.
Jack Irons had the most flavour but Matt overall is the better drummer on a techincal level and seems to connect better with the guys.Jeff said Matt and him had have the best chemistry compared to the past drummers.
thanks for the link and thank you for the memories Dave!
