$317 for the SDE sucks and I feel for this guy BUT if there is something I don't agree with is that fact that he thinks 10C wasn't clear about whether this was exclusive or not.
They never said this was an exclusive item, when it is they say it, this time they didn't so to me it was clear that this was not exclusive.
10C didn't say this would be available overseas, but why wouldn't it be, every other release is, it goes without saying.
Many people are quick to send emails to the 10C bitching about things but how about before going crazy and pulling out your wallet you first send an email and ask the people at the 10C, will this be available overseas? and based on that make your decision to purchase.
And whoever bought the set only for the signatures was delusional, random meant random, and getting a signed one was a long shot and was never presented any other way.
The only thing I do think the 10C could have done is make a small print disclaimer, something like "all orders will be shipped via UPS" that way international fans knew what they were getting into with buying the set through the 10C.0 -
The copy that you quote above was not evident when I clicked the link to make the purchase which was immediately after the e-mail was sent.7387 // "I'll ride the wave where it takes me..." // 28-02-92 / Astoria 06-92 Cancelled / 14-07-93 / 29-10-96 / 30-05-00 / 20-04-06 / 27-08-06 / 18-06-07 / 18-08-09 / 25-06-100

Jesus! I thought I'd read that as 10c had used the expedited service that all 'handling' charges had been paid and we'd only have to pay the customs charge - has anyone contacted them about this?? I'm about to get royally f*&^ed in charges! :?0 -
redrock wrote:pdalowsky wrote:have you honestly convinced yourself that the signing thing wasnt an effort to sell a shit load more before it came available elsewhere? I personally dont mind as I would have ordered anyway, but I get what people are saying on here who are not necessarily collectors....and ordered because it might be signed....its pretty blatant really.
If there hadnt been a signing option, and and the item wasnt exclusive, do you really think people would have ordered internationally?? I mean really?
Hey... I'm not saying anything about that. If people want to order and 'play the lottery' it is up to them - you say you would have ordered anyway - I'm guessing loads are thinking the same way. And if they cannot read that an item will be 'in stores', that also is up to them. Again, on the day one could pre-order, it was said that it would be available elsewhere.
And yes, I do think a lot of people still order internationally.
I understand that people are very pissed off, but be real. As one poster said "I think the only one I can blame is myself" (which actually, from a UPS charge, he can shift the blame elsewhere).
PJ - don't bother trying to give people a bit of a treat/surprise with the next item to be released/sold. Oh... and don't bother offering to non-americans because if there is no treat or item is not exclusive to 10C, they won't bother ordering.
It's not about anything other than the additional UPS charges - I had no idea they would be that much! I was expecting to pay a bit of customs per package, but to have to pay an additional $70 (approx) on top of customs is completely disgusting. Had I known and was given a choise, I'd prefer to have waited 6 weeks or so and have it sent through their normal postal route.0 -
I think that the most pressing question is: why did it cost so much to ship to Europe/rest of the world, and North American customers got free shipping? Are we paying the shipping costs of those to whom shipping would cost much less? I'm one of those with mixed feelings about rushing to support the band by ordering the day after this was announced, and paying well over the odds in the process.
My SDE arrived in Dublin today and is waiting at home for me. Who knows, maybe I got lucky and got a signed one. Either way, I can't wait to get home and open it.
The guy who is paying 317 euro has been screwed, no two ways about it. I won't apportion blame, but I feel that if the 10c is using a distributor that is so costly to European customers, perhaps they should review their business practise in this area. When we found the things we loved,
They were crushed and dying in the dirt.
We tried to pick up the pieces,
And get away without getting hurt,
But they caught us at the state line,
And burned our cars in one last fight,
And left us running burned and blind,
Chasing something in the night.0 -

Just pointing something else out. US shipping was free when pre-ordered before 1st March. International was $50. Looking now international is still $50, and US is $15. If 10c were subsidising US shipping before1st March, but couldn't justify the cost of subsidising International shipping, couldn't they have still knocked off the difference ($15) up to 1st March making everyone have a similar discount, Making International shipping $35?
Just a thought....http://www.wishlistfoundation.org

Why should I think they would send through UPS since every other time I have ever ordered from them they have never used a courier service.Astoria 20/04/06, Leeds 25/08/06, Prague 22/09/06, Wembley 18/06/07,

To get it to people on (even before) date of official release (remember all the moaning threads about how long it took goods to get to Europe).
But they should have been VERY clear about it. Which they weren't.0 -
They tried to deliver it to me in Manchester today - when I phoned up to ask about charges - £30.31
£19.13 VAT, and £11.00 admin fee to pay the VAT on my behalf!!! Charge me to charge me!

I was about to point out the same, 10C have never done this on any order I have ever made. I will admit to being stunned when I got the shipping email (stunned and delighted). I knew there would be a customs charge but additional UPS charge...in my book that is covered by the shipping & handling cost I pay. Like someone else pointed out, I have ordered much heavier/bigger goods from the US and never paid that amount of shipping but then again 10C's shipping cost have always been larger than normal (and I accept this).
I'm not bitching and moaning, I bought the item from 10C for 2 reasons. The first (and also most important whether you believe me or not) is that I want the money I spend on this band going directly to the band and 10C provides this opportunity. That is why I always buy from 10C. The second reason is for the opportunity to get a signed copy. I dont mind paying a bit over the odds for this either.
I just feel for everyone, as no-one expected to get hit with such large charges :(I need a coffee!0 -

I thought that I would have to wait an extra couple of weeks as usual and that didnt bother me as it is usually the norm. I have never bitched about that.

To be honest, I think that's the issue with most people. Whay can't the US just let us all in and we can create a PJ town in the country somewhere, we'll even promise not to disturb the 'regular' folk and then we'll all get the same shipping costs!http://www.wishlistfoundation.org

Exactly. I knew I was paying more I just didn't expect to be hit with quite the level of charges :(
Oh well I'll pay it and enjoy the boxset. But will know for the next reissues not to order through 10c 'cause although I like the money to go to the band I like to keep a little for myself:shock: :P
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?0 -

One positive I can take from the UPS charges....
The shipping address on my order is an address in London I havent lived at for 3 years, over 100 miles from where I live now. I dont know how it ended up as being there, since I have ordered stuff to my current address loads of times. Maybe autofill on the website. I dont know.
Anyhoo, UPS said they have to deliver to that address once before they can reroute. I dont know who lives there now and cant contact them so was really worried someone would just sign for it and it would go missing.
Looking at my UPS link today, I can see the delivery was flatly refused! No doubt the £35 charge helped that decision!.
I can only blame myself for rushing in and ordering from the 10 club but at the time it wasnt clear how limited this was, whether it was fan club only and whether it would be released in commercial stores overseas.
My friend who ordered from HMV is laughing his head off at me right now.
I shall have to think long and hard before ordering from tenclub as opposed to UK stores again.Wembley 00 (Night 1)Cardiff 00 Astoria 06 Jools Holland Recording 06 (I met Ed!)Reading 06 Katowice 07 Wembley 07 Shepherds Bush 09 O2 London 09 Hard Rock Calling 10 Manchester 12 Night 1 and 20 -

Invade all you want, I live in the UK (though I am American... well part... well... you know.. one of those!)
Though on a more serious note... would Jersey not be an option (says someone who has absolutely no idea...)0 -

I had often wondered why all Euro orders weren't sent to a central distribution point for the more expensive, customs-incurring items and customs paid then. Even if it meant upping the shipping a little surely it would be cheaper than everyone being charged individually for customs charges and 'handling' fees. There must be enough merchandise sales coming this way to warrant looking into it at least.http://www.wishlistfoundation.org
