Don't agree with you at all.

It was always known you would be able to buy the Super Deluxe Edition (and the other editions) from other retailers once it was officially released, it was never a 10c exclusive.

The release date of the reissue is March 24th; anyone with a brain could've figured out that the other versions would be available to buy after that date as they're not limited.

This was just a special pre-order, likely to gauge how many of the Super Deluxe they would need have produced. There was never any promise of getting a signed copy, only that a small amount of random copies would be signed. Just because the forum worked themselves up into a frenzy believing ALL would be signed (a completely baseless theory), it doesn't change the fact that only a very small number will end up getting autographed - just as originally promised.

I definitely WON'T be sitting here crossing my fingers hoping for a signed copy. I already knew the chances were incredibly small that I'd ever get one and had decided to buy it just for the package (and if it IS signed, well that's just a bonus).

couldn't have put it better myself

Maybe their hands were real sore and tired from all the shredding they're doing while recording the new album...

I'd say in an hour or so, they could sign 20 or so boxes.

    40 in 7 minutes?!

    No way.

If they really did sign 40, I'd wager that's at least a few hours work.

Anyone who's complaining about the amount being signed only has themselves to blame, nobody ever gave you an expectation that they'd all be getting signed - that's ludicrous. If you're disappointed when you open your box to find no signatures, then I'm not sure you bought this for the right reasons.

So it takes 60 minutes to sign your name 20 times? It takes you 3 minutes to sign your name once?

Well, we're talking about five guys sitting around a table signing together, also probably talking, drinking coffee, eating eggs, etc. Factor all of that in, plus sitting there passing each box from one guy to the next - it's going to take longer than (scribble) - pass - (scribble) - pass...

Why is everyone surprised? Did you all really think they were going to sit down and sign a whole bunch? This is not Nickelback you're dealing with here. More than a handful would be "sign for money" anyway.

i'm wondering if these people think it will sound better if signed....cuz otherwise, who gives a shit? :?

You have a staff of employees running the ten club. They open the sets, lay them on a table and the band members can come and sign them at their convenience. They don't have to be there all at once. It's easy and it's not rocket science. Please stop trying to defend them and make excuses as to why it is so difficult to sign their name. I guarantee you it's alot more difficult for people here to earn $140 than it is for the band to sign a couple hundred sets.

And I am going to continue to add a disclaimer....I am in no way pissed off that I probably won't be getting a signed set. I'm not really bothered by that at all. I'm pissed that 10 club members were mislead as to how many were signed.

I'm hardly a 10c/Pearl Jam apologist, I've had issues with various things they've done or not done previously, but I really think they've done it right this time.

Mislead? What are you talking about? I bought mine before they even said anything about signatures. Plus it said "some" once they added the note in the description. It didn't say "a lot", "most" or "a bunch". Now if someone posted that they were going to sign as many as they could then I believe they did just that. Or maybe they all got there and decided against the idea of signing away for hours. I kinda like the idea that only a select few were signed, makes them more special. But who the fuck knows. If you think the ten club was wringing their hands together thinking "Ha ha ha, we sure fooled them!" you have a distorted sense of reality.

thats a bit extreme, but people don't like to think of the 10c as a business, which it is, and businesses use hooks and techniques to get people to buy from them. it's really not rocket science. they're the best fan club out there, but they're far from perfect.

This whole debate is premature... no one actually knows how many the band signed... Besides, PJ doesn't owe us anything (although for comparrison's sake, Trent Reznor actually signed every copy of Ghosts I-IV that was pre-ordered (probably because no one would buy it otherwise  ))... Regardless, I'm prefectly happy giving an extra 15 bucks to the tenclub even if it's just to support them over some mega-corpo giant like Best Buy/Amazon...

And for the record, I never expected to get a signed one. But when an employee comes on here publically and says they are going to come in and sign as many as they can in a day, it definitely sways people to purchase here rather than cheaper somewhere else. It takes about 2 seconds to sign your name (unless you are spencer and it takes 3 minutes ;) ) It feels like false advertising. It wouldn't feel that way if that wasn't said. I did find it funny that people thought every single one would be signed. Come on now.

I dont care if mine is signed but would like to clear up this signiture timing. I work for a Co. part time that does sports auto's and on average it takes one person about an hour and half to sign his autograph 200 times.

Santos said they were going to come in and sign as many as they can. Unfortunately the new board isn't allowing us to search previous posts by specific users so I can't find it. Mislead was the wrong word but based on this thread, I wasn't the only person who interpreted that as more than 30 or 40. I highly doubt they think they fooled us but they absolutely got more sales out of it by posting that. At that point, I doubt Santos knew how many they were going to sign so I doubt it was deliberate deception. The band was probably just lazy about it. They already got paid for the sets.

Why are we arguing about this? It is what it is....no one has gotten or not gotten an autographed set yet. It's just some people writing their names on a box anyway. As long as my set has everything in it then i'm all set. Autographs would be a bonus but I won't cry if I don't get them. What a stupid argument :)

that's where you're wrong - Santos never made that claim. someone posted that he/she emailed the 10C inquirying about how the band would go about signing the Deluxe boxsets, and the response that person shared was the now-infamous "as many as they can",...
To quote the 10C from Newsletter #8: "Please understand we have a lot of members and it is very hard to please everybody. If you are one of those unhappy people...please call 1-900-IDN-TCAR."

Ok well either way, an employee of the 10 Club said that. We have had no reason to dispute that would we? I guess our opinion of "as many as they can" vastly differs from that of those holding the sharpies. Their opinion is the only one that matters.

It is that whole "ENTITLEMENT" thing.... I paid my $25...THEY OWE ME!!! Worst thing 10C did was even MENTION the whole signed thing.(imho)

I get the whole business aspect of it all, (mention it and prob sell more), but I KNEW MONTHS ago that this was going to happen. Just didnt think it would happen BEFORE they arrived. AMAZING!!

For some it has NEVER been and will NEVER be about the music. While I am about the "stuff" as well to a point. It has ALWAYS and will ALWAYS be about the music for me. The collecting thing is just a bonus in my eyes, and I enjoy it. SIGNED OR UNSIGNED!! Grow up folks! :-)

I remember the thread - the OP of that thread had stated he contacted the 10c and was told of the "plan" to sign as many as possible in the day...I agree if only 30-40 ended up being signed, that is a little disappointing. That said, I ordered day 1 without knowing if the no. to be signed was 5 or 500. I was happy to give my $$$ to the band as opposed to a retailer even if I could save a few bucks. I looked at it as though I was supporting the band and getting a free lottery ticket for an autograph. For those who jumped on board when they heard the chances of getting a signed copy were somewhat "better", I understand why they are bummed. Mods could have quashed that "rumour" when it was posted. Anyway, that's life, good luck to everyone. Certainly makes cracking the box exciting...
  • i don't understand the argument that the 10c deserves this money more than retailers. why? are the people that work for the 10c better people or more deserving to earn money than people that work for those "evil" corporations? i swear some of you live with pearl jam branded blinders on. the band still gets paid for the sale of the record no matter where it's purchased.

I would assume the further you go down the food chain, the less money in the hands of the artists - I would also imagine some of this money goes back into the fanclub. It just seems logical to me as fan of the band.

I think Bob Marley said it best - why must the people believe in rumours? If people hadn't circulated "news" like this about the signatures, we could all be excited for this package to arrive, rather than this aura of disappointment/anger that some people seem to be emitting. I think a huge problem is that people don't seem to realize that there is etiquette associated with text, as well as speech. The person who, a few months ago, posted an email that they were sent from 10C should never have done so, especially without asking the 10C whether they could quote it first. This way, we could've nipped the distribution of (potentially) false information in the bud.

i don't understand the argument that the 10c deserves this money more than retailers. why? are the people that work for the 10c better people or more deserving to earn money than people that work for those "evil" corporations? i swear some of you live with pearl jam branded blinders on. the band still gets paid for the sale of the record no matter where it's purchased.

I brought this up a week or 2 ago. I don't get it either. The band probably makes just about the same. Some people willingly pay more money just to "support the band". Pretty assanine if you ask me. I ordered it here becuase I figured it would ship faster than Amazon and there was a chance of getting a signed one. Not to damn the "evil corporations". Remember people....10 Club is a business too.

I would assume the further you go down the food chain, the less money in the hands of the artists - I would also imagine some of this money goes back into the fanclub. It just seems logical to me as fan of the band.

I would be willing to bet that probably isn't the case. In the event that it is the case, it would be nice if they invested that money in good servers the next time there are ticket sales.
