  • I have a new bf, so my first intention was to not say anything and just see what he does... but then I thought that was either mean or setting myself up for disappointment. SO, I asked him and *shocker* he went on a TINY rant about the commercialized BS... we've agreed on cards and making dinner together with some vino. Sounds perfect to me!

Sometimes it just sounds like an excuse cos they're too bloody lazy. So what if it's overcommercialised... every holiday is.

  • damn, i was just riding the elevator in my office, and it was packed given the hour....and two men were apparently discussing Vday. the one man was saying to the other 'dozen long-stemmed roses to be delivered to her office....check. dinner reservations....check..."....and etc. at first i was thinking, sweet! how thoughtful, perhaps not what i would want...but at least he's taking the time and planning it to make it special and all. then he continues on to say "well of course the roses need to be delivered to the office b/c without other people around to see them, it does not have the desired effect. getting them delivered at home on saturday would be a total waste b/c then she'd have no one to show off to." all i could think was wow.....if that's what he thinks of his wife, how sad! or, if his wife really IS like that....how sad. hahahaha. i joked with a colleague who rode the elevator with me "if my husband ever talked about me like that"...and we both laughed. *sigh* eh well......hopefully they're both happy! :)

I'm a girl, and I love flowers no matter what. But this is true for most women! It's bogus, but I know lots of chicks who want stuff delivered at work. Maybe it's more about letting coworkers know that their man didn't forget. It's lame.

i love flowers too....most especially for no reason, and especially flowers that my man knows i love. and sure, it's nice at work simply for the 'surprise' factor more than anything else, and really...that can be done anywhere. so yea.....i do think the idea of needing to show off is lame....and/or her man thinking that of her, rightly or wrongly...AND discussing it loudly/publicly in a packed elevator.....:P sheesh. who really knows tho eh? just struk me as odd, a bit said...and got me thinkin'....never a good thing. ;)

Going to a baby shower. I think it's a very sweet way to spend V-day. :D

    that is kinda cute! :)

i usually can't stand bridal or baby showers...but for Vday, might be very sweet! enjoy!
    .

Neither can I. But this is a good friend (Ten Clubber, actually)...and a fun group of people so it'll be a hoot.

Did you buy them PJ onesies? :) My best friend is pregnant and I bought her two (even though she's not a huge fan) because I figure that by the time I have kids (if ever) they won't be selling them anymore. Might as well live vicariously through her for a while. I'll take some pictures with the munchkin and call it good.
i'm a single man this valentines day. i'll probably head downtown and heckle couples out on dates ;) either that or get sloshed. maybe both :)

    Yep. Drink to excess.
    :)
Maybe Valentine's Day won't end as lonely as it started. ;) Wooooooo!!!!

I am gonna cook us dinner in the pressure cooker that I am giving the gf as a gift, then we are going to see SPARKS (mainly known as an 80's new wave -synth pop band).

    Question:

Since v-day is on a Saturday, is it ok to go out on Saturday morning to get flowers, or should I stash them in the house on Friday night?

Not being weird but are you sure that's wise??????????????????? there are plenty of women who would use violence against their SO giving them household stuffs.

I thought about that, but since I will be presenting it to her along with the ingredients of the dinner I am going to cook, I reckon it will be ok! I am also giving her tickets to the World Figure Skating championships, so I think she will be happy.

 fair enough... but if you had to think about it, maybe don't give it as a gift but just say you bought it, the other gifts would be more than enough.

yea, yea, yea...it's a contrived BS holiday...one shouldn't need a hallmark holiday to express their love and blah, blah, blah. now that that is out of the way ;).....what are your plans?

we're not doing anything outside of the ordinary of our usual saturday night. going to dinner at our fave italian place. sure, cards....but no gifts! although, perhaps a decadent chocolate dessert. 8-)

anyone doing anything fun or unusual?

Worst holiday ever. My gf has to work all day, then we're getting fried chicken for dinner and watching a rented movie. I bought her tickets to Ray Lamontagne in Milwaukee.

well of course that's your decision  I'd definitely go for a chick flick... maybe a classic chick flick like Bridget Jones Diary (i think it deserves 'classic' by now) or the satc movie was actually really really good.

I just love chick flicks though

bride wars is shite  27 dresses was bearable... hmm... leave it with me... but they only seem to come up with great ones every few years. There's a few brand new ones i'd like to see though... new in town, the confessions of a shopoholic, he's just not that into you, rachel getting married (downloaded at the mo but not sure it qualifies as chick flick  ). Tis the season and all that :D
