when Chase came up he had the best swing of any phillies player i've ever seen. short, quick, just perfect. he was just an unbelievable hitter. since the hip injury he hasn't been the same. he was a hall of fame level player for those 1st years but unfortunately he doesn't have high enough career numbers in any category to be a hall of famer at this point (.290 batting average, 1198 hits, 188 career home runs... sorry war doesn't get you into the hall). he would need about another 5 years to get to numbers to be in the discussion in my opinion and with bad knees i don't see 5 more years.. shame too because he was undoubtedly on his way before the injuries.0 -

Don Mattingly Part 2
i used to love Mattingly back in the day. he played on some shitty yanks teams though. did he ever play on a playoff team? i know he was kind of in between the great era's.0 -

That he did. Some tough years, the organizations whole philosophy changed during his years. Yeah, his last season. '95. He batted .417 in the series. Lost game 5 in Seattle on a Martinez walk off scoring Griffey. Fucker. Then you know what happened the next year.
Everyone involved said the flight home from Seattle was the quietest flight they had ever been on. Everyone knew it was Mattinglys last game. Brutal.0 -

Agreed. Great comparison.
It's pretty crazy how comparable their careers and their peaks were, and the unfortunate chronic injury.0 -
By the way, Pearl Jam just #3'ed all over people's faces in Amsterdam. Jesus, I wish I was there for that.0
