  • From ESPN Stats and Info, how Hamels won:

    A) The Brewers laid off his changeup, swinging at just 12 of the 28 he threw (43 percent, lowest swing rate of the year). That forced Hamels to try the fastball, which still has not quite recovered velocity since his DL stint. It averaged below 90 mph for just the second time this year. More than half of the fastballs (32 of 63) were swung on, and all but three of those swings made contact. Fortunately the defense was behind him; of the 19 at-bats that ended on fastballs, only three were hits (including the two homers that eventually knocked Hamels out of the game).

My understanding is that the only thing that "knocked Hamels out of the game" was the 27th out.

so other than games after clinching a playoff spot when could have been the last time the Phils played a game with Howard, Utley and Rollins all not in the lineup? has it happened at all since all 3 have been in the majors?

I read 2004 this morning. It's like it's not even the same team. Those 3 and Hamels (maybe Madson) would be our core guys I guess. Like 'em or not. ;)

last night's lineup reminded me of the bad old days of the 90s (not including 1993). should make you appreciate what we have in our core after seeing a lineup like that again.

Not a big Conlin fan, but he does have insight. $5 mil to spend on draft picks? Jesus. That IS going to end up biting them in the ass.

You guys are definitely better, but beating Chris Narveson with your backups is hardly evidence of domination. If we meet in the playoffs Narveson will be a middle-reliever that would give us an inning or two or mop up after you score 6-8 on one of our starters. The pitching matchups in this series certainly seem to be on your side (of course that's the case with 4 top end starters), but you will never have seen Grienke for good or ill by the time the playoffs roll around. Dismissing the Brewers as weak would be like me saying well we put up some runs against Cliff Lee and Roy Halladay at the start of the season so we have nothing to worry about in regard to the Phils. Admittedly the Brew Crew has gone on this run against a very weak schedule in the 2nd half vs. a tough one in the first, but they've also done it without Ricky Weeks (maybe he secretly sucks but I don't think so).

What got me about last night's game was the Brewers' defense is atrocious. If they give the Phillies extra outs/bases in the playoffs it's lights out, especially when they are trying to eke a few runs out of Halladay/Lee/Hamels.

what is Weeks' status? I actually like him as a player.

Gotta keep this Brewers team in the ballpark. I don't see a lot of rallies coming from the lineup against the Phils pitching.

Weeks was available to Pinch Hit yesterday and they went with freaking Josh Wilson, and yes our defense is really hit or miss. A good week and they are all over Sportscenter, a bad one and well you saw it last night.

Wind blowing in at the Bank would be beneficial to you guys, actually any wind at all against a team that plays many of its games in a dome would be beneficial (see also: Yovanni Gallardo's near bomb off Hamels in Game 1 of the '08 NLDS and Mike Cameron's flub job in the bottom of the 4th with 2 outs and Yo nearly out of a bases loaded no out situation (one created because Ricky Weeks can't catch a fucking sac bunt throw to first)). Sports are funny like that if Yo homers we all know Hamels pouts and crumbles, Philly fans get on the team and say they suck so bad they couldn't even beat a guy who tore his ACL 6 months ago, CC gets to pitch at home, the Phils fall apart, and this thread is infinitely funnier and more like the Eagles thread. Oh well.

Dude, forget about Narveson for a second....we fielded our worst lineup this season and trounced your boys.

And then there's tonight.....I wonder what the excuse is for that one....

Again, if we don't make it to the WS there's something seriously wrong.
