Irishman.  Great flick.  You could tell that old men were playing the parts as there was zero pep in their step and they walked very stiff.

All in all it was a good movie and had to read up on this Frank Sheeran character.
Watched 2/3 of it last night.  Laughed at a lot of the old man stuff when they were meant to be young.  (A lot.)
Also was thrown off by the way the reverse aging thing made everyone look.  (If you didn't know those faces so well it might not have made them appear as wax museum faces, to me.)

I liked the movie itself, so far, and look forward to watching the rest of it.
Loved seeing Action Bronson make a cameo in this.

    You finish this yet?
Yes, and I also loved that scene.  Loved that is was him being a funny bastard, which he is.

The makeup was just as off-putting when they were super old

I liked the movie.  Strange how they did it, but I liked the story and how it was told.  Obviously watching those guys do their thing (even with the young and old tricks) was fun to get to do again.

And I thought the end of Hereditary was nuts.  Ari Aster has one upped that here, tho not quite as good. Gorgeously shot film. This is The Wicker Man on crack.

Rollergator (1996) I think I may have seen the worst and most unprofessional movie ever on Rifftrax. This makes Birdemic look like Goodfellas ffs. Joe Estevez of MST3K "classics" Soultaker and Werewolf is in this. I actually came close to sad tears because of celluloid wasted on this crap.
 ok i had to google it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Mkrj06CldA still doesn't looks as bad the Room though

I stand corrected this was worse than the Room. Saw it last night (through Rifftrax)

    Shutter Island

I saw this when it came out in the cinema and remember being hugely disappointed. I watched it on television last night and thought it was fantastic.

The script is still flimsy as hell, but the performances, direction, cinematography, music selections, set design, lighting design and sound design were all top notch.

I have a kneejerk reaction to any narrative form that relies on plot twists, so the twists in this film may have just caused me to pooh-pooh it when I was 10 years younger and more up in arms about such things. But now, 10 years later, I suppose I've mellowed out on this a bit, which allowed me to experience the film more holistically.

Absolutely re the cinematography. I was completely blown away by it and what it took to make the whole movie in what I think has only TWO CUTS for the entire film. I could hardly believe it, to the point that the technique and skill and work on the part of the actors and crew and director such a feat would take distracted me from the storyline completely, and I didn't mind at all, lol. It seems like it would be impossible, but they did it. Amazing.

  • 1917 - amazing film, I really can't fault it, from the acting, the storyline, and the sheer feat of how they filmed it.
